(PAR-CD-103) CD
Regular Price: $10.00
Second album from the artists formerly known as Toothpaste
2000, veteran guitar pop trio from Seattle, and part
of the Parasol family since the days when Frank and
Donna were known as Cowboy & Spingirl. The sound
of Mas Rapido! manifests itself like a handful of lost
'60s and '70s radio-pop classics, driven by the pervasive
power of rock-n-roll. |

Steve
Almaas & Ali Smith - You Showed
Me
(PAR-CD-102) CD
Regular Price: 10.00
Second album from Steve Almaas (Suicide Commandos, Beat
Rodeo, solo artist) and his significant other Ali Smith
(Speedball Baby). Ali Smith's musical background is
steeped in punk, rockabilly and most notably, the blues
stomp of Speedball Baby. Steve Almaas was in on the
ground floor of punk rock in the late-70s, as a founding
member of Minneapolis’ Suicide Commandos, as well
as a precursor to alt-country with his band Beat Rodeo
during the 80s. As with their self-titled debut (PARCD084)
their shared love of American song manifests itself
yet again on their second album, ‘You Showed Me’.

|

Chicago’s Elanors, vocalists Noah (piano) and
Adriel Harris (guitar) backed by the rhythm section
of Daniel Johnson and Rodrigo Palma (both members of
Judah Johnson). This, their second album, is a collection
of piano-driven orchestral-pop and disarming folkrock
invention. All Music Guide: "The eight electronic
nocturnes here are soothing, soaring, and ultimately
unsettling; mood music for the paranoid and disaffected." |
|

Doleful
Lions - Shaded Lodge And Mausoleum
(PAR-CD-098) CD Regular Price: $10.00

The sound of dreams, and of course, nightmares, continues
on Doleful Lions’ fifth album, ‘Shaded Lodge
And Mausoleum’. Now paired down to a doleful duo,
Chicago denizen Jonathan Scott (songs, singing) and
North Carolinian Dave Jackson (antique gadgets, studio
wizarding) have turned out yet another lo-fi masterpiece:
beautiful, ornate songs paired with unsettling subject
matter. |
|

Kevin
Tihista - Home Demons Volume 1
(PAR-CD-096) CD $10.00
Fourteen-song collection of unreleased songs from heralded
Chicago songwriter/recluse Kevin Tihista, sans his Red
Terror. Features plenty of Tihista’s trademark

and the best bits from the download-only Dracula collection. |
|
The
Orange Peels - Circling The Sun
(PAR-CD-095) CD $10.00
Holed up in a Sunnyvale tract home, The Orange Peels
have written the next chapter in The California Sound.
If the band's first two albums, Square (Minty
Fresh) and So
Far (SpinArt), were the groundwork for their
newest effort, the foundations were well laid. But nobody
could have predicted the soaring heights and sweeping
soundscapes of Circling the Sun... |

Angie
Heaton - Let It Ride
(PAR-CD-094) CD $10.00
Let It Ride is the third album from Illinois
singer-songwriter Angie Heaton, a former member of Corndolly,
Liquorette
and Tractor
Kings. Angie's music is a kaleidoscope of influences,
her albums lovingly assembled scrapbooks filled with
torn pages from yearbooks and journals, concert tickets
worn down from the washing machine, dog-eared photos
of backyard parties and summer vacations. Every song
Angie writes is a love letter that never got mailed,
a list of hopeful New Year's resolutions, diary-personal,
fragile, beautiful, and real. |

The
Like Young - So Serious
(PAR-CD-093) CD $10.00
Cut to 2004. One year after the release of debut album
“Art
Contest,” several national tours (including an opening
stint for Mates Of State), and two day jobs later, The
Like Young have unleashed "So Serious." Building on
the base of their debut and kicking it up ten notches,
the Ziembas rip through 12 songs in 24 minutes, producing
their most focused and confident group of songs yet.
With Barry Phipps (Cocktails) back at the boards and
some lyrical brimstone on the mic, The Like Young loses
the suits and lets it all hang out. 50s-80s-00s pop-rock-punk.
"The Like Young write and play the best
straightforward rock `n' roll songs you've ever heard."

Kevin
Tihista's Red Terror - Wake Up Captain
(PAR-CD-092) CD $10.00
Stupendous third album by Chicagoan Kevin Tihista. On
Wake Up Captain Kevin once again reunites with
producer Ellis Clark and delivers his most stirring
album to date. Balancing clever insights, extreme wit,
and tender frailty into a cinematic - nearly visual
- song cycle that mines themes of the paralyzing insecurity
and the boundless safety found in love and life, the
duality of strength and weakness, sentimentality and
sarcasm are presented with honest, intimate realism,
a sense of humor, and gorgeous vocals echoing myriad
influences. |
|
Timewellspent
- Timewellspent
(PAR-CD-091) CD $10.00
The debut release of timewellspent is an ambient, beautiful,
shoegazey cross between the orchestral sides of The
Beatles, Beach Boys, Burt Bacharach, The Zombies and
Pink Floyd. Highlighted by intricate arrangements, lush
strings and melody, this recording will please fans
of melancholy, multi-layered chamber pop. Mixed by Thom
Monahan of Pernice Brothers.
|
|
Doug
Powell - Day For Night (PAR-CD-090)
CD $10.00
Ex-Swag member Doug Powell is the exiled alchemist,
the Great And Powerful Oz wailing away behind his curtain
on a solo workstation. Think Todd Rundgren. Think Andy
Partridge. |
|
Toothpaste
2000 - Catch-22 (PAR-CD-089)
CD $10.00
"They don't hide the fact that their main influence
is classic British pop, but they've also been doing
this long enough to have made it just one part of their
arsenal, which runs to power pop and punk....for a three
piece they make very big noise."--AllMusic

The
Like Young - Art Contest (PAR-CD-087)
CD $10.00
Debut album by duo formed by Joe and Amanda Ziemba (both
formerly of WOLFIE and BUSYTOBY). Driving, pbeat, catchy
pop with monstrous hooks and top-flight songcraft akin
to Weezer/The Rentals, Sloan, and the poppiest Nirvana.
This married duo let loose a selection of full-on retro-fitted
guitar rockers: Joe slings the six-string and bass,
Amanda pounds the drums, and both contribute vocals
to songs which maintain an ebullient, melody-rich vibe.

|
Neilson
Hubbard - Sing Into Me (PAR-CD-086)

Ahhh, beauty and atmosphere to spare from beneath the
big night sky...
Neilson Hubbard examines the power of love and devotion
on his third album highlighted by his pure, inimitable
vocals that are as expressive and individual as any
you'll ever come across. A more intimate, reflective
outing for Neilson this time out, including a cover
of "Jesus" by The Velvet Underground. |

CD $10.00
The third album and Stateside debut for Swedish songwriter
Måns Wieslander, a collection of quietly intense and
heartbreakingly profound popsongs draped in lush, gilded

Rodeo. Smith is a former member of garage-rock-lounge
combo Speedball Baby and is an esteemed published photographer
of rock stars and prominent women ("Laws Of the
Bandit Queens"). |
|
John
Cunningham - Happy-Go-Unlucky (PAR-CD-083)
CD $10.00
Overcast, bittersweet, spectacularly English pastoral
pop from Joe Pernice endorsed UK artist. MOJO said about
Cunninghma's previous album HOMELESS HOUSE: "..sweetly
melancholy collection...pitched somewhere between Robert
Wyatt at his most accessibly fragile and The Beatles
at their most quietly winsome." |
|
Doleful
Lions - Out Like A Lamb (PAR-CD-082)
CD $10.00
Fourth album from literate pop band about which UNCUT
once enthused: "Sixties revisited by modern-day
spacers. This is what The Beach Boys' 20/20 might have
sounded like if you heard it under sedation..." |

CD $10.00

Tihista's Red Terror - Judo (PAR-CD-080)
CD $10.00

later Parasol reissued Don’t Breathe a Word in the U.S.
concurrent with the 12-song album, titled Judo. It’s
as if we got to release that debut double CD! |
