On his new 45rpm vinyl single Velvet Crush drummer and very
occasional solo singer-songsmith Ric Menck graces the A-side
with his cover of former Soft Boys and Katrina & The Waves
guitarist-songwriter Kimberly Rew’s pissed-off protest
anthem “Hey War Pigs”, which Ric cites as "the
greatest protest song ever written"; aided & abetted
by co-conspirator Matthew Sweet.
B-side is Menck's dry-hump version of The Flaming Groovies “Teenage
Head”, recorded by David Newton of Fonda and Mighty Lemon
Drops fame.
Black wax in a plain paper sleeve.
In addition to founding Velvet Crush Menck is and has been a
member of The Drats, The Reverbs, The Springfields, The Paint
Set, The Big Maybe, The Stupid Cupids, Pop The Balloon, Choo
Choo Train, Duffy, The Tyde, Frausdots, Aimee Mann and Matthew
Sweet.

A message from Ric:
“Hey War Pig!” is the greatest protest song
ever written. It has a simple, straightforward message that
even a complete dunderhead like George Bush can understand.
I wasn’t thinking about him when I was singing the song,
though. I was thinking about a woman I saw being interviewed
on television recently whose son was killed in Iraq. She had
the mournful look of death in her eyes as she spoke, and for
good reason. When the bullet killed her kid it mortally wounded
her as well. The thought of this caused so much emotion to well
up inside of me. Singing the song as a response felt very cathartic.
I’m not politically motivated, but it’s hard not
saying something about our current situation. This year was
the bloodiest yet in our conflict in the Middle East, and there’s
still no end in sight. How many more sons and daughters are
gonna have to die before we come to our senses?
