Parasol New Arrivals • March 20, 2007

Hi friends,

We’d like to start off the update by filling you in on what our little Parasol pet has been up to. You may recall a couple of updates back our new friend had taken complete control of the office after we had shut down for the day. We would come back the next morning to find our workspace in a shambles. This time you’ve really done it, friend. Our pal, Jared del Deo, sent over a copy of his newest project titled, The Qualitarians housed in a beautiful, one of a kind case along with elaborate knick knacks to boot. But lo and behold, our furry friend, who I like to call “Oh Sheila”, decided to that she would like the one of a kind box for herself and proceeded to demolish the contents within. Oh well, what are you going to do? Or should I say, what are you going to do next, Oh Sheila?

This week we’ve been bumpin’ the new Low and Ted Leo and The Pharmacists at full volume and we recommend you do the same, friends. Also, this just in, we’ve got one copy each of the Bee Gees “Studio Albums 1967-1968 [Box Set]" (pre-disco wank era, this is the good stuff) and the Johnny Cash “Unearthed” 5CD box set. Act now and we will part with these gems for a measly couple of buck over cost!

That will be all for this week. Enjoy the update keep your ear to the ground.

Soon,

Roy/Paul/Oh Sheila (you sneaky little thing, you)

Parasol Mail Order Pick of the Week

Low "Drums & Guns" CD $12.00 (Sub Pop)
The eighth full-length from Minnesota's Low, and their second for Sub Pop. While these songs feature new elements (looped vocals, drum machines, etc.), and are thoroughly, radiantly contemporary, they remain undeniably Low's. "Drums And Guns" possesses the unique, subtle beauty and power we've come to expect from this band, but it's also profoundly exciting in ways that are easy to forget music can be.

Adult.
Why Bother?
PS, US Uneasy listening music for uneasy times. A time to contextualize "folk" for our intent & advocate the importance of being folk. Folklore defines a distinctive culture, the common people, real people. Uncomfortable, restless, disturbed, perturbed, awkward & anxious. This hopes to spread the word of weird... Abnormal motivations, ready & willing. This album, of all their albums, they feel is the most accurate culmination of our disordered hysteria

PS, US Secrets of the Lost Satellite combines tripped-out instrumentation with a vast array of sonic color creating a demanding, visceral appeal. Live instruments (drums, piano, and guitar) mingled with electronic elements. Strong, hooky vocals keep the album on course. This album most definitely pulls the listener into an eerie, enticing space/dream world. Our pal, Jeff Garber (Ghost of PMO's past) contributes guitar on a track!

Atkins, Chet
Eclectic Guitar
PS, UK Chet Atkins played a major role in creating what came to be known as 'The Nashville sound'. Through his smooth and eclectic jazzy guitar playing and ambitious production ideas he brought a hitherto unknown sophistication to country music that would see it break through into the mainstream during the sixties and seventies. As a guitarist (compared by many with Django Reinhardt and Andres Segovia) he sold 35 million records and directly influenced talents as diverse as George Harrison and Paul McCartney, Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran, Eric Clapton, The Ventures, Mark Knopfler and even Ted Nugent. He played guitar on Elvis Presley's breakthrough single 'Heartbreak Hotel' (which he also arranged), on Hank Williams' 'Jambalaya' and on the Everly Brothers hits 'Wake Up, Little Susie' and 'Bye Bye Love.' He produced sessions for Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jim Reeves and for the Everly Brothers. As head of A & R at RCA he discovered Waylon Jennings, and Charley Pride. He was dubbed 'The King of Music Row' a reference to the Nashville strip where the record labels were based. 'Eclectic guitar' showcases Chet Atkins' incredible virtuosity and versatility and his extraordinary taste. Here jazz standards such as 'Honeysuckle Rose' and Tenderly sit comfortably alongside his first big pop hit 'Mr Sandman,' classical repertoire such as 'Minute Waltz' and beautifully played country and rock tunes 'Alice Blue Gown' and 'St Louis Blues'. The overall effect is quite wonderful. Sunrise Serenade / Honeysuckle Rose / Caravan / Mister Sandman / Intermezzo / Tenderly / Minute Waltz / Minuet-From French Harpsicord Suite, Prelude From Six Short Preludes / Little Rock Getaway / Ochi Chomya (Dark Eyes) / La Golodrina (The Swallow) / Indian Love Call / Alice Blue Gown / St Louis Blues / Gavotte In D / Malaguena / Waltz In A-Flat / Adelita / Petite Waltz / Liza

Autumn Shade
Ezra Moon
PS, US The nom de plume of Jes Lenee', a stunning young songstress brimming with unbridled talent. A classically trained piano prodigy, ultimately seduced by the craft of songwriting, AS is a marriage of her piano prowess & folk-inspired guitar strumming, imbued in a heady ambiance & enveloped in some of the most heavenly, intimate vocals to have come down the pike in some time. Unique sepia-toned microcosm, one that intertwines folk, chamber music, psychedelia, avant-rock & indie singer/songwriter. Colored by additional instrumentation of violin, hammer dulcimer & percussion, and a healthy penchant for sonic experimentation.

Bears
Self-Titled
PS, US Bears has been described by You Ain't No Picasso as a record that "recalls the tenderness of twee, the poeticism of Morrissey and the pop stylings of many of the bands on Matinée"-but that's only part of the story. And while the group shares an affinity for acts like Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura, their music is pure unbridled pop, in the best possible way. Catchy, carefree and, most importantly, free of any indie pretension.

Charles Atlas/Textile Ranch
Split
PS, UK The Static Caravan house of recordings deigns fit to issue a split CD EP by Textile Ranch and New York ambient conceptualists, Charles Atlas. Textile Ranch offer up 4 new slices of digital automation under such preposterous titlements as 'Murderer/Gardener,' 'Bear Is Ours,' 'We Both Hurt Our Heads' and 'Huguenots.' Susanne Bauszat (Tropes/Early Autumn Break) and Chris Bauer (Early Autumn Break) both stick their oars into 'Murderer/Gardener.' Charles Atlas opts for the more geographical, 'Oakland' and 'Genova.' Charles Atlas is an instrumental duo (often expanding into a trio or quartet) who utilize effected guitar, piano, synthesizer, melodica, trumpet, drum loops, samples, and other instrumentation to paint expansive musical pastures on the crowded walls of the urban centres they and their audiences call home. They have recorded for quality street labels such as Ochre, Static Caravan and Audraglint. Textile Ranch is the work of one Glen Johnson. Glen is also the founder member of the band Piano Magic. A band that have released music with a lexicon of good labels and collaborated with rediscovered poets before they were rediscovered. Vashti Bunyan, Alan Sparhawk from Low, Ben Ayres from Cornershop, John Grant of The Czars and Angle David-Guillou of Klima (the latter, recently signed to the Peacefrog label). Textile Ranch is the work of one Glen Johnson. Since the bands first release on very friendly he has been carrying out extensive personal research into the shoes of one Joseph Merrick after being commissioned by Nike to write the music to accompany their latest advertisement for trainers designed by David Lynch.

Concretes, The
Kids EP (ON SALE)
PS, US Vocalist Victoria has left the band, but has that stopped The Concretes? No effing way! Lisa and Maria are handling the vocal duties and the pop-orchestra behind them remains melodic and inventive. Think frosty starry-eyed folktronica and if you need some updated namedropping Jim says Concretes 2.0 is a bit more like Maria's folksier band Heikki and even sorta El Perro Del Marry in spots. EP features "Kids" from the upcoming album 'Hey Trouble' plus exclusive b-sides: "Another Day To Waste", "Reasons", and a lovely cover of Graham Nash's "Military Madness".

Damon
Song of a Gypsy (LP + 7")
PS, SPAIN Repressed on vinyl. "Damon. This is the artistic name of David Del Conte, a genius American gypsy musician who is responsible for probably the rarest and most sought-after psychedelic music album of all time. We're talking about his debut album, Song of a Gypsy, which was originally released in 1969. This album has a totally unique sound, with the 'crooner-like' voice of Damon, the omnipresent melodic fuzz guitar of Charlie Carey and truly atmospheric melodies. Guerseen is very proud to be able to re-release Song of a Gypsy on vinyl format. This will come with the rarer gatefold cover (there were two original pressings, one in single cover and one in gatefold, with different artwork). This fabulous vinyl production comes with an extra 33rpm EP including the four tracks that were released on their two bloody rare singles, including an insert with photos and liner-notes, making this a very special release if all previous things weren't enough."

Destroyalldreamers
Glare/Halo EP
PS, US 180g BLACK VINYL 12". Destroyalldreamers captivated us to no end with their gorgeous debut album in 2004 (the year's best shoegaze record, handsdown!) We were ecstatic to have them record a special limited record just for us, and we are quite excited to present it to you. Housed in a gorgeous die-cut jacket in the Claire's Echo series by Aaron Winters, with a slip-in full color heavy card cover image, backed with a beautiful close-up shot of a guitar in b&w. Destroyalldreamers does destroy indeed, with their beautiful and intense sonic landscapes. The instrumental outfit from Montreal keeps you on the edge of your seat as they weave through tapestries of billowing, effected guitars to create massive layers of beauty and noise. Fans of Slowdive, Explosions in the Sky, Paik, etc. definitely fall in love with Destroyalldreamers the moment they hear them. The EP is kicked off with the incredible "Her Brother Played the Riot" - a monumental side-long track eclipsing 20 minutes that had to broken into 3-parts on the forthcoming album. Here it appears on vinyl exclusively. On the flip, we are treated to three shorter but equally powerful tracks: Dead on Arrival (100% exclusive to this release), A Summer Without You (another taster from the forthcoming album on WAMR), and A La Guerre Comme A La Mer (another 100% exclusive track that will not appear elsewhere).

This CD includes sounds from various Drawing Voices sessions used in collaboration with musician/artist Aaron Turner.

Durutti Column, The
Sporadic Three
PS, UK The Durutti Column is Vini Reilly and Bruce Mitchell. In a career spanning the past four decades, and over 25 albums, they have written and performed as one of Manchester's most influential and prolific acts from their beginnings as Factory Records first signing to their fifth and latest album release on Kooky. 'Sporadic Three', released this spring, is the third in a series of special collections some 16 years since the original 'Sporadic Recordings'. As highlighted over his long and illustrious career, Vini Reilly is a prolific songwriter. Ideas and tracks just fly from Vini, and he's currently in the form of his life. Unfortunately, most of these tracks, or initial versions of songs, never make it to final release. The basic idea then behind The Sporadic Recordings series is to release material that never makes it onto studio albums. This collection follows the same premise and contains new and exclusive tracks, outtakes, versions, and home demos. Reilly's off cuts contain more ideas than most of us have over the course of a lifetime. A key interest for Durutti Column fans lies around the listener being able to hear a re-work, adaptation or different instrumentation used by Reilly as he regularly re-visits music from the past. The music of The Durutti Column has been commissioned for films such as 'Jerry Maguire' and 'Requiem Again', in addition to various works for television. Morrissey chose Vini Reilly to play and write on his first solo album 'Viva Hate'. The other two collections 'The Sporadic Recordings' and 'Return of the Sporadic Recordings' have sold out within a matter of weeks.

Einsturzende Neubauten
Palast Der Republik
PS, US This performance was filmed on November 4, 2004 at the Palast der Republik in Berlin, the former Parliament building and symbol of the no longer extant DDR (East Germany). The Neubauten found the steel skeleton of the ruins of the Palast a congenial location for their architectural-musical fantasies and field studies. Accompanied by a 100 member choir, recruited from the supporters of the www.neubauten.org Internet project, they played in and with the building in their inimitable, almost literally building-collapsing fashion. Contains previously unreleased songs, band commentary and more. Song Titles: Haus Der Luege, Armenia, Weilweilweil, Youme & Meyou, Perpetuum Mobile, Dead Friends (Around the Corner), Grundstueck, GS:1, GS:2, Unseasonable Weather, GS:3, Vox Populi, Was Ist Ist, Ein leichtes leises Saeuseln, Sabrina, Alles. Plus: Encore performances of Die Befindlichkeit des Landes and Redukt.

Elastik Band, The
S/T
PS, US Known almost exclusively for their extremely politically incorrect 1967 Nuggets cult favorite "Spazz" (track #2), the Elastik Band was actually a highly talented group that could play just about any popular style in vogue during the mid-to-late 60s, much like the Knickerbockers. Thus, at times they sound like the Byrds with vibraphone ("Mixed Emotions," #3), the Mamas & the Papas ("All I Need," #10), the Syndicate of Sound ("Lose Yourself," 19), and even what sounds like a parody of the Zombies ("Fire and Desire," #9). But the group excelled at the 12-string guitar and multipart harmonies of groups like the Byrds and Beau Brummels, as many tracks on the disc attest. They also had a few curiosities besides "Spazz": "Popcorn" (#7) being the closest, though "Mrs. Pig" (#17) would also qualify. The last track is from an Australian radio broadcast in 1968 in which the DJ begins playing the song "Spazz" but cuts it off before completion and calls it "offensive." This disc, released on lead singer David Cortopassi's private label, represents the band's complete output of their own compositions (they also recorded a Jimmy Webb tune at one point), some never before released. Hopefully the release, though belated, will show that the Elastik Band was far more than a novelty one-hit wonder.

Evripisis And His Tragedies
S/T
PS, US This is the first sign that Evripidis and His Tragedies are a truly unique band and have developed their own style. In Evripidis' song writing there is space for pre-Beatles pop as heard on "Ru Ru I'd love to...", to the sinister and grotesque "Transylvania, Some nights are sleepless" and "Cause I shall rise again", the picaresque cabaret "Red is the sky above the harbour" and romanticism "I want to be there", "Long-Lasting Lovers" or "Straydog" and also singles as "It's June Again!" and "Gregory (we're coming out in the light)". Conceptually, Evripidis use polarity (reality and fantasy, romanticism and sexual tension, self-parody and idealisation, catastrophe and comedy) to create a work guided by humour and his flirtation with daily tragicomedies. The result is an album that is personal, daring, original and ambitious.

Exits, The
S/T
PS, UK The Exits formed in 1977 around the Battersea and Tooting areas of south London and signed to Lightning Records (then riding high with Anthea & Donna's huge number one hit "Uptown Top Ranking"), scoring a top ten hit in the punk/independent charts with their lone 1978 single, "The Fashion Plague" b/w "Cheam". They quickly became something of a live draw in south London and played several high profile shows including one at the London Dungeon supporting Screaming Lord Sutch! Their set was largely comprised of songs written by bassist/vocalist Colin Swan and guitarist/vocalist Geno Buckmaster which evoked the best of Elvis Costello, Pete Townshend and Graham Parker but they also threw covers of Tommy James & The Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now" and Small Faces' "Tin Soldier" in for good measure. A second single, "Keep On Tryin'", was slated for release and an album's worth of high-quality demos laid down in early 1979. Gigs promoting the 'forthcoming album' showed great promise. Sadly, Lightning slowly backed away from the sounds of the new wave, preferring to concentrate on the lucrative soul/disco market and The Exits recordings were left in limbo...until now! Not surprisingly, the band soon folded with Swan and Buckmaster re-emerging a year later as '60s/mod pop heroes The Direct Hits. But that's another story... With the band's full co-operation we have unearthed those unreleased Exits album demos and are proud to present them on CD for the first time. - Featuring the band's story in their own words with previously unseen photos and memorabilia! - These are the roots of The Direct Hits, one of the 1980s' great cult pop secrets! - A must for fans of new wave, punk, power pop and the cool '60s sounds of The Who, Small Faces and The Kinks!

Giant Skyflower Band
Blood of the Sunworm During
PS, US During a sabbatical from regular duties in THE SKYGREEN LEOPARDS, Glenn Donaldson (never one to rest) dreamt of Giant Skyflower Band, an exotic, flowery and crumbling new recording project with nods to fruity new age, psych, prog, folk, and pop songwriting. Donaldson quickly invited multi-instrumentalist Shayde Sartin to "smoke marijuana & make up strange pop songs," and thus the band was born. With Gong's seminal "Magick Brother" as a starting point and a sitar close at hand, the duo created a dark, peregrine pop transmission from their shoddy analog recording studio in San Francisco. The duos debut offering examines in detail the idiom of Bummer Psych; the strain of damaged Anglo-pop music pioneered by Syd Barrett that arguably reached its apex with The Television Personalities "Painted Word" LP in the mid-80s, but found new life in Japan via the genius of Tori Kudo and like- minded acts such as Nagisa Ni Te and Tenniscoats. Indeed, "Blood of the Sunworm" consists of depressing pop songs and damaged instrumentals - teeth bared and falling apart as they are cobbled together - on a hazy, cryptic journey through a busted kaleidoscope, behind a dusty mirror & up through the rafters.

Giffoni, Carlos/Prurient
Heavy Rain Returns
PS, UK Noise/experimental - Two of North America's greatest now living noise artists get together in Bushwick, New York for one harsh collaboration. This is some brutal stuff, man! They succeed extremely well to create something unique, but also where you hear the influences they both bring into the vortex of hi- & lo-tech electronic noise. Noise music became the new black in 2006. And this album gives us hope for an even more explosive 2007. "Heavy Rain Returns" is a truly monumental album. Recorded in Bushwick, New York City - it's an intense trip into harsh noise and electronic sickness, with some deep black metal influences. Carlos Giffoni is maybe best known for his great "Welcome Home" record for Important and his curator skills are infamous through his No Fun Fest in Brooklyn which is the world's most extreme music festival. He has also collaborated with Thurston Moore, Lee Renaldo and Fe-Mail. Prurient is Dominick Fernow who is operating the Hospital Productions label and shop out of a basement in New York. His albums "Black Vase" and the latest "Pleasure Ground" for Load Records are both highly recommended and loved. Here we hear two of the US-noise scene's absolutely most important creators together - and man, it's pure energy hitting you hard. The noise is ON!

Hume, Kevin
The Truth About Ants and Aphids
PS, US An 11-track, four-part song cycle; sounds like indie pop/folk with classical elements, songs centered around vocal, guitar, bass, keyboards, etc, but also prominently features strings, brass and woodwinds, performed by some of the finest musicians in New Mexico (no lie); lead single "Towns Where We Live" was featured several times on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. Here he brings an indisputable triumph of acoustic guitar composition, a reverential & innovative melding of sound & form. Jonesy
Ricochet (1972-73)
PS, UK Jonesy are the last great secret of the early seventies progressive rock era. A wildly acclaimed British group whose influences vary from Frank Zappa, can, neu, Ian Carr's nucleus and King Crimson, Popol Vuh and the west coast pop art experimental band. The original vinyl editions of their three original albums (from which this compilation is drawn) on Pye's specialist dawn label are expensive collectables. The music has aged well and for once the inflated price tag is entirely justifiable. The group were brilliant musicians, pioneers who were not above creating under the influences of strange substances. The music is very psychedelic and hugely compelling. 1958 / Ricochet / No Alternative / Reprise / Preview / Questions And Answers / Children / Know Who Your Friends Are / Jonesy.

Lea Shores, The
Guillotine
PS, UK The Lea Shores provide string-laden psychedelia from South London's paisley underground. Six strong they deliver guitar driven melodies supported by the mesmerising harmonies of twin brothers Simon and Nick Webb and aural sound-scapes from band violinist and Brian Eno cohort Nell Catchpole. Andy Bell of Ride and Oasis fame had this to say about them; "The Lea Shores are my favourite new band... I saw them supporting Brian Jonestown Massacre in Stockholm and was hooked straight away. Since then I've seen them in London a couple of times and they are pulling bigger crowds each time. The music is psychedelic and layered... distorted guitars and harmonies but underneath it's almost folk music. They should be big... they're already fucking epic!" They are to play The Royal Albert Hall at the end of March supporting Kasabian at their personal request and are sure to go from strength to strength.

Loch Lomond
Lament for Children
PS, US Ritchie Youngs solo recording project. EP complies live performances from 2003-2006, ranging from Young by himself to a ten-person band. During this time, many different recording sessions took place in various studios & homes. "The hopeless tone in Ritchie Youngs voice tells of a terrible life of unfortunate circumstances. Even the old Scottish folk song from which Loch Lomond takes its name is the story of a broken heart & the springtime weather that does nothing to heal it. It works, though, because Youngs voice-with its gloomy, morose manner-needs the subhuman relief that noise readily provides. Ultimately it is a record wallowing in its own despair as much as it is a record that took great, inspired care to make-and its definitely a record to avoid after a breakup." -Rolling Stone

Locust, The
New Erections
PS, US The Locust has been throwing up in the face of conventional music since 1995, when the band formed from the pieces of San Diego hardcore stalwarts Swing Kids and Struggle. Their songs are fast, atrociously ultra violent, and drenched in sci-fi noise, gruesome keyboards, and herky jerky, bestial scream/sing vocals, described by one journalist as "a car wreck with vocals." This is the follow-up to their 2003 Anti/Epitaph debut "Plague Soundscapes". With longer tracks and Mars Volta producer Alex Newport at the helm, "New Erections" should find new fans for this adventurous quartet.

The Children of Lir
PS, UK The Loudest Whisper originated in rural Fermoy, Co. Cork in the early '60s. This psychedelic folk classic was recorded in 1974, and has gone on to become one of the rarest records ever issued in Ireland. The Children of Lir was a musical score, based around the mystical legend of the Irish King Lir, and his children who are condemned to live as swans. A glorious mixture of catchy melodies, soaring harmonies and biting acid guitar, it's presented here complete with a 12-page booklet featuring rare photos and detailed sleevenotes, as well as six bonus tracks (including demos, non-album 45s and the soundtrack to the work's original broadcast on Irish television), making it the most comprehensive edition of The Children Of Lir ever assembled.

Moskitoo Remixes
PS, US Limited edition of 500. The Moskioo remix cd is a 4-track single featuring remixes from Moskitoo's full length cd Drape (12k1041). Released as a limited edition of 500, the remix cd features "Wham & Whammy" remixes by Raster/Noton founder Frank Bretschneider and SND's Mark Fell. 12k's Taylor Deupree remixes "Skie" and the album version of "Wham & Whammy" is present as well. Bretschneider's remix comes in his signature style of ultraclean bleeps and boucning machine beats, layered with Moskitoo's delicate vocals. Mark Fell takes a decidedly different approach chopping the original into hundreds (thousands) of fragments and recombining them into a jittery and jarring recontextualization. Deupree's "Skie" remix adds organic tones and new layers of guitar and ambience to the lazy calm of the original.

Orchids
Good To Be a Stranger
PS, SPAIN The enigmatic five piece band formed in Glasgow have released some of the finest pop songs of their generation since humble beginnings in Penilee, a suburb of the city, where the three founder members grew up and started the band in 1986. Their first six singles and three albums were met with widespread critical acclaim, much of this from out-with the UK. They graduated from the gentle lo-fi craft of their first album, Lyceum, in 1989 ("A minor classic - don't let is pass you by" said NME) through to the ground breaking and progressive sounds of their third, aptly titled, Striving For The Lazy Perfection ("lithe, evocative and memorable music" - M M) in 1994 with "sixth member" Ian Carmichael of One Dove at the studio controls. In the intervening years they released Unholy Soul in 1991 ("Sarah Records answer to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds") and some truly original singles & EPs that, in keeping with a stance sometimes perceived as awkward and single minded, were always kept apart from album projects. The ethos was always more about value for money for their fans than genuine stubbornness, however. The singles included what many believe to be the high point of their career to date, Something For The Longing as well as final single Thaumaturgy in 1993. Reformed in 2004 after a break of Paddy McAloon proportions they are now ready to take another swipe at the tedious world of the music business with an album that takes them back to their musical roots. Recorded at Riverside Studios, home to other better known homegrown acts such as Travis, Teenage Fanclub and Trash Can Sinatras, their new record Good To Be A Stranger is a fabulous collection of new songs that will feed the hungry appetite of the fan base that has grown over the intervening years. Ahead of their time in the early 90's, it is only now that many have realised how fascinating and mature those earlier releases were. Good To Be A Stranger is released on Madrid based label Siesta on --- March 2007 and the band will be heading out to play live gigs for the first time in twelve years to promote the new release - nothing like keeping your fans waiting! Offers of gigs in the UK, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Singapore and the USA illustrate how the World Wide Web has allowed their global reputation to grow. Later in 2007, a cover of The Go Betweens' song Magic In Here will also appear on a Grant McLennan tribute album, Love Goes On, released on USA's Rare Victory Records. You can also currently hear one of the new songs Down To The Ocean on Siesta Records compilation Erre Que Erre. "The best Scottish pop band since Orange Juice" - Melody Maker "A blissful mix of the best Scottish bands of the last few years" - NME" "Eclectic. Every single song is a gem" - Exclaim "Luxuriant textures, immaculate pop fizz with enviable purpose" - MM "Songs of emotional wit and sparkling indie pop" - All Music Guide "Languid and alluring" - Tangents "The tension between wanting to wig out and grow more evanescent is evident" - Uncut "They brought together all the best parts of the 80's Scottish music scene, while adding something that's hard to pin down, yet made them so very special" - Exclaim!

Paley, Tom
Beware Young Ladies! (ON SALE)
PS, SWEDEN New recordings from underground folk legend Tom Paley, with special guest Bert Deivert, recorded in Sweden in early 2006. Tom has been recordings since the 50s! Tom Paley was born and raised in NYC, where he first fell in love with old-time music. He began playing guitar and 5-string banjo and quickly excelled at both instruments. He briefly performed in a duo with the great folk musician Woody Guthrie in the late 50s. Later he helped form The New Lost City Ramblers, with Mike Seeger and John Cohen. This group inspired a greater mainstream interest in traditional music. The Ramblers considered their live concerts primarily as opportunities to share great old songs they had discovered with their fellow folk performers. After The Ramblers broke up Paley formed The Old Reliable String Band (with Roy Berkeley and Artie Rose). Tom moved to Sweden, where he lived from 1963 to 1965, before moving to England where he has resided ever since. Tom continues to tour in America and Europe both solo and with other musicians.

Churning out shattered pop hits that few have the ears to comprehend, Portland, Oregon's Panther is a one-man disaster squad. The music is hard match of damaged soul, falsetto disco and broken synth fueled freakouts which is as addictive as it is challenging. Panther isn't easily ignored for his unpredictable and energetic solo performances tainted with throbbing bass, minimalistic hooks and jittery dance routines. Panther's influences run deep and take as much from Pop and R&B as Free Jazz and Punk. In the past year Panther has infiltrated MTV2 (up for Video of the Year), Spin Magazine, and modern dance academia. While touring with both Ratatat and Gossip, he has managed to polarize audiences thoroughly between the immediate super-fans and super confused gawkers. PS, US All of the songs are short stories; even if again & again the narrators voice is transmitted to the instruments, the piano, the guitars, an accordion. Ben Coopers alter ego has created a songwriter album. Or rather a song-writing album, the tracks as carefully arranged interiors, chamber folk, pocket symphonies, passionate melodies. Another one of these houses full of stories. He recorded the guitars & drum-patterns, the banjos, organs & keyboards & sang in chorus w/ himself.

Red Crayola
Soldier Talk
PS, US Having been missing in action for 28 yrs, this vital, much acclaimed work is now available again. It 1st on Radar Records & was their 1st new commercial release since 1968. It reflects the world as it sat, awash in punk rock & its cognates, dreading mass destruction. This album is petit-guignol, a travesty of expression; its screams & sighs, a theatre of terror.

Reuber
Sudpol
PS, US He creates unusual electronic pastiches that weave a massive selection of esoteric & unexpected samples into a stunning, vibrant patchwork that constantly pulls in different directions. His instinct for unusual juxtapositions goes well beyond the postmodern irony of incorporating aboriginal music into a psychedelic techno collage -- he has a true ear for combinations that work. Much like shifting curtains of the Aurora Australis, this is cosmic.

Rev, Martin
Cheyenne
PS, US Reissue, originally released in 1991 on Alive records. Part electronic rock band, part performance art project, Suicide found its home in the NYC art scene. Rev's Cheyenne is considered by some to be Suicide's second album minus vocals, but it is way more than that! It is a fantastic look into the creative process of one of the most influential & ground breaking groups/artists of all time. These finely crafted gems set the stage for what became some of Suicide's greatest material. "Rev effortlessly captures the sounds of New Yorks cavernous avenues filtering , phasing & modulating the sounds of the Empire city" -Sonic Boom. Revutsky, Roman
Incomplete
PS, MEXICO Roman Revutsky possesses a genuine sensibility of pop that stands either way over sad structured rock or complex electronic music sequences. Roman is a singer/songwriter who, directly from the four walls of his house in freezing Siberia, still has the warmth to keep his tender heart alive, pumping strange stories told by a soft and charming voice that will hardly be unnoticed. With a naïve attitude, Revutsky fills the gap nineties indietronica left between rock and electronic music: earnestness and reality. Though his music doesn't properly fit in that genre, Roman will probably enchant enthusiast followers of this kind of pop music with his awkwardly hypnotic lyrics. "The tracks he has recorded and made available are irresistibly charming (his voice, prominantely accented, is reserved but strangely moving, like a Siberian Stephin Merritt), and though its impossible to be sure of how his album will sound once completed, I have a hard time imagining it being anything less than stellar." PS, US Portland filmmaker Matt McCormick makes films that combine found and orginal sounds and images to fashion abstract and witty observations of contemporary culture. Sun Ra
Toward The Stars
PS, UK Sun Ra is simply one of the best-loved and most highly respected progressive jazz musicians in history. 'Toward the Stars' showcases' the incredible music Sun Ra was making at the outset of his career in the mid fifties. This music is decades ahead of its time. Numbers like 'Sun Song' and 'India' may owe something to Les Baxter and Martin Denny but their intonation is somehow much deeper. Sun Ra influenced Miles Davis and David Bowie and dozens upon dozens of others. In serious international jazz circles he is hardly less than a deity. The first and perhaps definitive 'independent artist'! Sway
Winter Heart EP
PS, US BLACK VINYL 180g 12". Sway are somewhat of an enigma. This much we know: they hail from Southern Callifornia; they play incredible dreampop; they are super sweet and friendly as hell, but equally elusive; they have sold through two CDEPs in no-time flat, with virtually no distribution or label backing. In fact, at press time, we are not sure if the band is still in existence (!). They have gone through a name change, briefly known as Keepee for a period of about 10 minutes, before they decide to screw that and stay Sway as they should be. Shame that there are at least a dozen other bands with the same moniker, yet all inferior. Sway are the real deal. Sway somehow creates literal LANDSCAPES of sound, with a hugely expansive sonic range that somehow makes your ears feel as though they stretch to the ends of the desert, capturing every drop of beauty with impressive clarity. Their dreamy pop songs are sheer and utter bliss Layers of guitars heap on top, both chiming and ringing, as well as gliding and effected. Ethereal male vocals make a perfect match, as they are not too strong nor too weak, and beautiful as any we've heard. The Winter Heart EP is such a wicked tease - Sway's two previous EPs were short enough as it was, leaving fans clamoring for a full length. Now, after years of silence, Sway return with the shortest EP of their career - and yet it is in that brevity that part of their brilliance lies. If anyone is not left crying - *screaming* - for more more MORE after hearing this EP, the sheer pinnacle of Sway's career, then I challenge that soul to see if they are indeed alive! It leads off with "Winter Heart", a beautiful epic number nestled perfectly into the space of just a few minutes. Side A closes out with "Days Are Long", which then leads to side B, kicking off with "Days (Reprise)", and wrapped up with "Base Audit". It's a perfect soundtrack for walking down your snowpacked street, headphones on, but feeling warm all over. Likewise, it sounds just as perfect while kicked back on the deck of your boat with 95 degree sun beaming down on your smiling face. LIMITED to 100 pink vinyl copies (mailorder-direct only), and 200 black vinyl copies, all pressed on heavy audiophile-quality 180-gram virgin vinyl. Housed in a gorgeous die-cut jacket in the Claire's Echo series by Aaron Winters, with a slip-in full color heavy card cover image of pink flowers, backed with a lovely photo of the elusive band in b&w.

Eccentric Soul: The Big Mack Label
PS, US The fourth volume in our Eccentric Soul series examines the oil stained underside of the Motor City sound. There are no gold records, million dollar buyouts, or quaint museums at the end of the story, just a handful of four figure 45s, a box of photographs, and a condemned building. If Detroit was once an ocean of soul, the Big Mack label was certainly an island. Big Mack lasted an incredible twenty years without so much as a sniff of a hit. Dogged by lack of airplay, distribution, and a general lack of understanding of the music business, the label failed on almost every level except where it counted; the music. From soulful doowop to blistering garage funk, a left at sultry R&B and then a quick dodge into budget Hendrix wailing over a steel drum break, this disc is the epitome of Eccentric Soul. Artists include Bob & Fred, the Manhattens, Edd Henry, Ms Tyree Jones, the Essence, the Performers, Mae Young, the Soul President, the Sleepwalkers, the Grand Prix's, and L. Hollis & the Mackadoos.

Revenge Of The Psychocats
PS, UK In 2003 Cherry Red Records issued the first ever DVD compilation to feature the Psychobilly genre - "Psycho Cats" (CRDVD32). Following the continuing success of this release (and many others from the Psychobilly genre) - Cherry Red are delighted to announce the release of the follow-up DVD to "Psycho Cats" - "Revenge Of The Psycho Cats". The Psychobilly scene sprang to life in the early 1980's, with bands combining the spirit and sound of Punk with classic rock n' roll and country influences to produce a new and unique genre. Eccentric Soul: Twinight's Lunar Rotation
PS, US This is the Big Dig, the Tutankamen of R&B: Twinight. After two years of interviews, cold calls, storage spaces, half truths, unknowns, and dead ends, we've finally completed a large piece of Chicago's secret soul history. Eccentric Soul: Twinight's Lunar Rotation takes a look beyond their hit maker Syl Johnson, and instead focuses on the records that never had a shot at the charts. It's the story of struggling disc jockeys moonlighting as producers, high school talent show winners, major label cast offs, minor label upgrades, girlfriends with decent voices, and master purchases traded for chart position. It happened after midnight, and it happened right here in our backyard. Comprising 40 tracks in all by 22 artists, among them Renaldo Domino, Dynamic Tints, Annette Poindexter, Nate Evans, Radiants, Notations, Mystiques, Kaldirons, Perfections, Mist, Harrison & The Majestic Kind, Schiller Street Gang, Velma Perkins, Jimmy Jones, Sidney Pinchback, Stormy, Johnny Williams, Elvin Spencer and Pieces Of Peace. Villalobos, Gina
Miles Away
PS, US Gina's nothing if not dead serious. Her music is deeply rooted in time, place, and history. She's the real thing: an artist, someone who can show you where you are. Hailed as the new "Queen of Country Rock" and seemingly out of nowhere. Gina has rapidly established a growing cult following in the UK and the US for her infectious, raw, simply irresistible, roots rock influenced songs. Knowing when to whisper and when to unleash, she finesses words into new meaning with the slightest inflection. And for her live performances, where her willingness to expose herself completely takes her audience's out of the moment, to a place up above the chaos, alone with their thoughts. Eventually nothing else exists...it is a truly transcendent experience. Though she's been knocking around the music business since the mid 90's, it wasn't until she released her critically acclaimed 'Rock N Roll Pony' in 2005 that Gina made that all important international breakthrough, with an endorsement from BBC radio 2 DJ Bob Harris - making the record a must have commodity. Avoiding the sophomore jinx, Gina's second offering succeeds. She unveiled her new album 'Miles Away' in the UK on May 8th 2006 to the same, if not more enthusiastic, critical plaudits, and support from BBC radio 2 her acclaimed predecessor, Rock N Roll Pony received. This along with a 6 week US national tour supporting World Party sets the stage for her upcoming US release of 'Miles Away', which is widely anticipated in the Americana/Alt Country circles in which she first gained attention.

Weavers, The
Hard, Ain't It Hard (The Weavers Greatest Songs)
PS, UK The Weavers - Hard, Ain't It Hard - (The Weavers Greatest Songs) "The Weavers are out of the grassroots of America. I salute them for their great work in authentic renditions of ballads, folk songs, ditties, nice antiques of word and melody. When I hear America singing, The Weavers are there." Carl Sandburg. In the (allegedly) whitebread nice-nice late 1940s early 1950s, one of the biggest hit making musical groups in the US was made up of four erm...slightly odd-looking Communist sympathisers, one of whose biggest hits was composed by a Black convicted murderer...HA! you couldn't make it up, could you?..Hmmm...That's what the FBI thought..... The Weavers had perhaps the most extraordinary musical pedigree of any group in the history of folk or popular music. More than 50 years after their heyday, however, their origins, the level of their success, the forces that cut the group's future off in its prime, and the allure that keeps their music selling are all difficult to explain < as, indeed, none of this was all that easy to explain even at the time. How could a song as pleasant and tuneful and plain NICE as "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" be subversive? The quartet went from being embraced by the public, (selling over four million records), to being reviled and rejected over the political backgrounds of its members, and disbanding after only four years together. Yet, despite the controversy that surrounded them, and the fact that their work was interrupted at its peak, the Weavers managed to alter popular culture in about as profound a manner as any artist this side of Bob Dylan. The songs that they wrote or popularized, including "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine," "Wimoweh," "Goodnight Irene," "Wreck of the John B," "Follow the Drinking Gourd," and "On Top of Old Smoky," continued to get recorded (and occasionally to chart) 50 years after the group's own time. As a companion piece to the RevOla release of their legendary Carnegie Hall concert, here are the big hits....from the mirror-dimension period when The Weavers were a top hit group on a major label and smiled at mainstream America from every TV set....until Senator McCarthy and his ilk stepped in... Goodnight Irene / Wimoweh / When The Saints Go Marching In / On Top Of Old Smoky / Tzena, Tzena, Tzena / The Roving Kind / So Long / Hard, Ain't It Hard / Lonesome Traveler / Kisses Sweeter Than Wine / The Wreck Of The John B / Rock Island Line / Sylvie / Midnight Special.

Welcome
Sirs
PS, US Debut from Seattle's Welcome subverts & recontextualizes the band's unique alternative pop lineage, sitting somewhere between the fractured, exploratory idealism of 60's psych pop & such non-conformist US alt-rock luminaries as Unwound, the Breeders, Lilys or Deerhoof. Dynamic, stunningly arranged & prone to fly off at unpredictable angles, Sirs possesses a gnarled beauty. Spiked shards of guitar offset against warm, bittersweet West Coast-tinged melodies, underpinned by a driving, articulate rhythm section.

Yellow6
Painted Sky
PS, UK A debut on Resonant from a man with a wealth of back catalogue on labels such as Enraptured, Darla, Bearos, Ochre, Awkward Silence and many, many more, spanning almost a decade. Yellow 6 is the solo project of Jon Attwood, a guitarist based in Leicestershire (the first UK-based artist to release an album on Resonant!) who has released six full length albums, five live albums and one remix album, on top of several mini-albums and EPs, singles and contributions to numerous compilations. Painted Sky was recorded between 2004 and 2006, and strips away many of the layers of previous outings, resulting in a collection of melodic, organic guitar and piano soundscapes backed with subtle percussion. More ambient than post rock, Painted Sky draws comparisons to Labradford, Cocteau Twins, Durutti Column, Slowdive, Windy & Carl and Erik Satie, as opposed to the quiet/loud exponents; this is quiet/quiet, with an overall air of wistful melancholy. The previous releases of Yellow 6 have established a solid following, both in terms of fanbase and press.

PS, US Mike Bennett's guitar-based ambient drone is draped across sounds created on the other side of the world. Using New Zealander Christopher Orczy's harmonium works from his 'October' release as a basis, Bennett recreates an entirely new majestic work. The result is a chilly, nearly mournful depiction of the sound of northern lights as they ascend & fall in the night sky. Alsace Lorraine
Dark One (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH) (ON SALE)
PS, US Alsace Lorraine is the delicately delicious and unique electronic/guitar pop creation of seminary professor Paul Francke. We're pleased to announce that our favorite singer on Earth, Argentinean Singer/Artist Isol has joined Alsace Lorraine to sing on four of the album's 14 tracks too. Isol sings here in English for the first time! Isol left her band Entre Rios (Elefant {Spain}/Darla {US}) when the group signed with EMI Latin America because the deal demanded too much time away from her profession as an Artist/Illustrator. Caitlin Brice sings backing vocals on two tracks. Jane Francke (Paul's sister) sings one track. The sophomore Alsace album Dark One, though not literally very "Dark", was recorded and mixed by Paul at Paul's home studio in Chicago. Isol's warm, exotic, sensual vocals were recorded in Isol's bedroom studio in Buenos Aires. Paul's unique bedroom uber-pop soundtrack provides the perfect music bed to Isol's vocal. The result is a unique blend of Astrud Gilberto, Wolfgang Press, Eurythmics, Pale Saints, St. Etienne, Magnetic Fields, Hope Sandoval, as well as The Wake, Section 25 and other Factory-esque influences. Hopefully, Paul and Isol will make more beautiful music together. Alsace Lorraine sounds romantic; thoughtful, sensuous and smart. Comment from Paul Francke: I began the album begun during college on the south side of Chicago and completed it while working in Campbeltown, on the end of the Kintyre Peninsula, the most remote part of mainland Britain. Between those points I worked on the record in an Episcopalian seminary dormitory in Alexandria, Virginia, while training to be a seminary professor. It couldn't have been done without my brilliant, non-religious friends: Isol sings four of the best songs on the album, but she also made important suggestions for changes to the lyrics and music. We share a lot of beliefs regarding art and beyond, and it has been fascinating to work with her. Her friend Nico recorded her vocals in a studio in Buenos Aires. Caitlin Brice, the lead singer from the previous album, sings excellent backup on two songs here. Joe Moore plays guitar on one song, and my younger sister Jane sings on one song as well.

Kraut Slut (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 24TH)
PS, MEXICO Angel Sánchez Borges, the man behind AAM (Antiguo Automata Mexicano) takes techno to the next level with his second album and first release with Static Discos. Previously AAM released the infamous Microhate album on Germany's Background label. Inspired by German kraut and space rock, minimal techno and screwed up digital antics, AAM's Kraut Slut is the stuff of wicked dance dreams. Angel Sánchez Borges also records as Seekers Who Are Lovers on the Soundsister label. In a recent interview on URB Magazine, Borges says his secret to the AAM sound is his love for "My Bloody Valentine, a gentle way of dealing with strange layers of sounds. I want people to dance to these noisy grooves". Brown, Steven
Brown Plays Tenco + Live 1988 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 22ND)
PS, UK Steven Brown is a core member of cult avant garde band Tuxedomoon. As a solo artist he has recorded some ten solo albums, including Music For Solo Piano (1983), Searching For Contact (1987), Half Out (1991), Nine Rain (1996) and Decade (2003). Brown Plays Tenco was recorded in Italy in 1987 and features Steven's own interpretations of five songs written by cult artist Luigi Tenco. Born in Cassine in 1938, Tenco scored many hits as a singer in Italy during the 1960s, but shot himself through the head at the San Remo Festival in 1967 after Ciao amore ciao (Hello, Love, Hello), failed to reach the final. The suicide note explained that his suicide was a gesture of protest against the jury's taste in music. Never available on CD before, Brown Plays Tenco has now been digitally remastered with twelve bonus tracks recorded live in Italy in 1988. These include in-concert renditions of songs by Luigi Tenco as well as solo material by both Brown (Besides All That, rwf) and Tuxedomoon (What Use?, Egypt , Lowlands Tone Poem). Artist Resume: Steven Brown was born in Chicago in 1952, and currently resides in Mexico City. Tuxedomoon formed in San Francisco in 1977 around the nucleus of Steven Brown, Blaine Reininger and Peter Principle. Following a string of releases on the Residents' Ralph label, the band relocated to Europe in 1981. Their dozen-odd group albums include the classics Half Mute, Desire, Suite En Sous-Sol, Ghost Sonata and Holy Wars. The latest TM album Bardo Hotel was released in 2006.

Centro-Matic
Operation Motorcide EP (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3RD)
PS, SPAIN Will Johnson's problem is not a creative drought. He never stops composing. But then he has to decide to which one of his projects each song will go: Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel or his solo albums. He says that thinking about it for a long time can make him consider eliminating a song. After deciding that he is going to shelve one, he gets uptight. He wonders what would have happened with that song he dismissed, if it would have given more strength to his records, or if a hit has been lost on the way. With "Fort Recovery" his muse visited him and left the tap of inspiration on. Even though the final work ended up being a long record (the European version even includes three extra tracks which are not on the American one), some really significant compositions were rejected. The trickiest problem was dismissing songs. Listen to these eight tracks from those sessions and, if you don't mind me asking, which ones wouldn't you have left out?

Copy
Hair Guitar (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3RD)
PS, US Last year, COPY (who's known as Marius Libman to friends and family) proved that geography isn't everything. Because while Europe and the East Coast once monopolized the modern electro-house sound, Portland now lays claim to its own innovator who has taken the genre to new and unexpected places. His debut, Mobius Beard (Audio Dregs), displayed a knack for morphing headphone-friendly synthpop with floor shaking dance music (...or wait, is it the other way around?) that tore up stereos and clubs throughout the city of Portland and beyond. After a year-long string of legendary, sweatsoaked live sets that invetably erupted into epic dance parties, COPY was voted "Best New Band" by the Willamette Week, solidifying his place as a rising star within the local music scene. Outside of Portland, his infectious brand of instrumental dance music made fans of the likes of Tim Sweeney (DFA), Lovefoxxx (CSS) and countless DJs, audiophiles, hipsters and music nerds alike, who found his style undeniable; somewhere between Ratatat, Timbaland, and MSTRKRFT. And with the release of his notorious "Diva Mixtape Vol.1" under the guise of DJ COPY, new life was breathed into the likes of Mariah Carey and TLC, turning mid-90s RnB jams into triumphant, upbeat bangers that snuck their way into the hearts of many unsuspecting listeners who weren't exactly expecting to roll down the windows and pump their brakes to Whitney Houston this side of the millenium.

Dying Californian, The
Coarsegold (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 10TH)
PS, US The sound of The Dying Californian is rooted in American tradition, influenced by country and folk as much as rock. With floating melodies and complex harmonies, it is difficult to place it into a genre. It is as much at home in a drunken hootenanny as in a late and lonesome night. It all just fits. The Dying Californian's third release on Turn Records is titled Coarsegold. Three years in the making, the album marks a jumping point in the bands signature style and sound, refined and redefined. The story of the album starts 3 years ago when Nathan Dalton, the primary songwriter for The Dying Californian found himself with a new job that had him traveling throughout California, staying in a variety of different places, often, for weeks as a time. On one lengthy trip, Dalton found himself holed up in the small town of Coarsegold, the geographic center of California. Neither northern or southern, western or eastern, simply Coarsegold, California - a town existing somewhere in between. It was here that Dalton found a new center for his own writing, influenced by the stark contrasts of California as well as the isolation and inspiration that only come from being on the road. He began to pen a new record; handheld tape recorders, lyrics on napkins, music on motel notepads, wherever he could find to write it down, he would. Coarsegold, the geographic center of California, the heart, also serves as the pinion for the record.

Foxx, John/Louis Gordon
Sideways (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 27TH)
PS, UK John Foxx and electro DJ Louis Gordon release Sideways, their fifth album since meeting up just over 10 years ago. The album brings together sci-fi-themed electronic pop songs with trash psychedelia and film music to create the pair's most adventurous recordings to date. In fact, over 25 years after launching his solo career with the minimalist electro pop of Metamatic, Foxx has been enjoying a recent renaissance. In addition to the critically acclaimed From Trash, Foxx brought to life his Tiny Colour Movies album with a stunning performance at the Brighton Film Festival and continued his long-term Cathedral Oceans project with rare screenings at other UK film festivals. He also started work on various collaborative projects with Robin Guthrie (ex-Cocteau Twins) and the actor Vincent Gallo, which are due for release later in 2007. According to Foxx, Sideways explores his fascination with 'things that have all been considered at one time or another as trash - science fiction, TV, B-movies, synthesizers, psychedelia, pop music, comics - all the stuff I love!'

Drawing inspiration from classic analog synth-pop by the likes of New Order, Kraftwerk, OMD and Section 25, the album We Don't Just Disappear updates the retro-futurist mix with a stellar selection of guest vocalists, including Melanie Pain (Nouvelle Vague), Bobby Wratten (Field Mice/Trembling Blue Stars), Angele David-Guillou (Klima/Piano Magic), Carolyn Allen (The Wake) and Dan Matz (Windsor for the Derby). The 10-track album was produced by Glen and Cedric in 2006. Standout tracks include Switchboard Girl (sung by Melanie), Broken Robots (sung by Angele) and the title track, featuring Bobby. "Future Conditional isn't just an exercise in nostalgia. We are, in some way paying homage to the groups we love and inspire us, but we're also experimenting with the glacial electro/human emotional interface. The future is a robot with a human heart." (Glen Johnson). Piano Magic will release their new album Part-Monster in May 2007, and featured vocalist Angele will release an album as Klima on Peacefrog in March. Hearts Of Black Science
The Ghost You Left Behind (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 27TH)
PS, UK From Gothenburg, Sweden comes the latest Scandinavian pop phenomenon Hearts of Black Science. Formed by Daniel Änghede and Tomas Almgren, Hearts of Black Science set up a studio within an abandoned subterranean power plant outside Gothenburg. Isolated from the outside world, they experimented and developed their sound - melancholic and dark pop melodies, yet also uplifting and positive, not afraid to be inspired by a broad range of styles, gothic and metal, shoegaze and eighties pop. In 2006 the band released an two EPs that sold out in just 2 months, and got over 100,000 hits on MySpace. 'The Ghost You Left Behind' is the glorious culmination of those months of isolation - this collection of songs is all that's great about Scandinavian pop, sounding completely fresh. References: mixing up a bit of Doves, some Ladytron, a smattering of Mew and maybe M83 would be a good start, but there's a darker side as well, Depeche Mode covered by Air, or The Killers covered by Ulrich Schnauss.

Larsen & Friends
Abeceda (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 27TH) CD +_DVD
PS, US This CD/DVD set captures an extremely special evening for Larsen, one that places them in a perfect visual and musical perspective revealing more an a little about this enigmatic quartet from Torino Italy. For one night only Larsen assembled their closest musical friends to play to a sold out crowd at the Teatro Colosseo in Torino Italy. The purpose of the performance was to pay tribute to the work of Czech avant garde designer, typographer, founder of Devestil and cultural radicalist Karel Teige and his Abeceda - a 1926 collaboration with poet Vitoslav Nezva which minimalised text down to its basic components establishing a poetic dialogue between text and images. To Abeceda Larsen brings their minimalist beauty and melody with this live
performance incorporating music, dance and projections. With Larsen are their close musical friends David Tibet (Current 93), Baby Dee ( Current 93 member and acclaimed solo performer), Johann Johannsson (Touch/4AD) The music swells in gentle pulses of soflty stated melody. Emotion clings to each note while glistening shimmers of electonics dance quietly in the mix. The DVD reminds us of what a rich visual experience Abeceda was and is. As The Wire so perfectly put it in a extensive write up of the evening, David Tibet's performance "Provides a vital link between the music and the visuals... At one point he connects beautifully connects perfectly with the dancer, breathing deeply into the microphone in time with her movements." Visual projections, created by Bellissimo, portray a woman in a 20's style bathing suit, much like Teige's original work, portraying letters of the alphabet which slowly become obscure by Teige's brilliant typography. Thanks to Larsen's definitive discipline and their kindred visual and musical collaborators. Abeceda is an event of great subtlety and complexity. It is truly a gift that this performance was so perfectly documented in both an audio and visual format. Where the work of Karel Teige was a tremendous gift for the eyes, Larsen & Friend's Abeceda is a gift for both the eyes and the ears. Hats off to Bellissimo, the design team responsible for Larsen's distinctive packaging, for putting the finishing touches on a perfect evening and a perfect package. "My dear friends Fabrizio and Larsen honoured me by asking me to interpret the alphabet for their project ABECEDA in the light of Nezval's verses for Karel Teige. Being neither an admirer of dada, surrealism or the avant-garde, I escaped from them all by taking a train from the seaside town of Hastings where I live, to London, after kissing my cats goodbye. I looked at the blurs of sheep, tree, hedge, sea, pond passing me like living clouds. I looked at each letter of the alphabet, and covered Nezval's text with my hand. I ordered the letter to tell me what it looked like. I disbelieved its answer. Letters always lie. So I peered at the shape of the letter and wrote down my immediate responses.

Lewis, Wyndham
The Enemy Speaks (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 2ND)
PS, UK The first CD audiobook of readings by Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957), the influential British modernist writer, artist and self-styled 'Enemy' feted both by T.S. Eliot and Mark E. Smith. Lewis is best known as the founder in 1914 of the celebrated Vorticist art movement, an English variant of Italian Futurism. Publication of their journal Blast was interrupted by WW1, after which Lewis the artist pursued a parallel career as a writer of fiction, satire and criticism. Lewis spent the war years 1939-45 in penniless exile in America , yet carried on writing even after going blind in 1951. His many books include Tarr (1918), The Apes of God (1930), Blasting & Bombardiering (1937), The Revenge for Love (1937) and the trilogy The Human Age. His artworks include Workshop (1913), A Battery Shelled (1919), Tyro (1920) Red Portrait (1937), The Surrender of Barcelona (1937) and Portrait of T.S. Eliot (1938), and are regularly exhibited by galleries including the Tate, Hayward, Imperial War Museum and others. The Enemy Speaks gathers together rare broadcast recordings made by Lewis in 1938, 1947 and 1951 on various subjects in art and politics, as well as readings of three poems from One-Way Song, recorded at Harvard in 1940. The CD also features a dramatized extract from his Bloomsbury-baiting satire The Apes of God, recorded in 1951 with an introduction by the critic V.S. Pritchett. The CD closes with the recording of Sympathy that so vexed Lieutenant Lewis in his dug-out near Ypres in 1917. Lindt, Virna
Play/Record (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, UK The first release on CD of 'Play/Record', the second album by Swedish pop sophisticate Virna Lindt, originally released by The Compact Organization in 1985. Written and produced by Virna Lindt during a three-week holiday in London, Play/Record tackles girls who cannot stand the colour red, the numbing effect of the new media, and subterfuge and skulduggery in her adopted home town (the single My Home Town). The album has been digitally remastered by close collaborator Tot Taylor, and now sounds even more immaculate than before. Unfortunately Virna abandoned music forever after creating Play/Record, leaving the world a poorer place. Contemporary reviews for Play/Record: "Ms Lindt deftly conveys a sense of breezy, delirious Sixties camp. Arch instrumentals such as the title track and Add It Up are nothing short of wondrous, and the album is a delightful and accurate evocation of a period when music was allowed to be fun" (Melody Maker); "A uniquely crafted voiceover masterpiece, the diverse tempo moves from the sunny waft of single My Home Town to the more sombre tones of Any Colour But Red" (Sounds); "Lush, intelligent and very, very sexy" (Underground). The CD also features a deluxe 12 page booklet featuring original artwork and liner/recording notes.

Shiver (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, UKAn extended CD reissue of 'Shiver', the debut album by Swedish pop sophisticate Virna Lindt, originally released by The Compact Organisation in 1983. Written and produced by Virna Lindt and Tot Taylor, the acclaimed Shiver album offers 12 slices of chic, Cold War pop informed by 1960s spy thriller soundtracks and musique concrete, including the singles Attention Stockholm and I Experienced Love. The album has been digitally remixed and re-modelled from the original mastertapes, and now sounds even more immaculate than before. The new edition of Shiver also features bonus track The Windmills of Your Mind, a rare Michel Legrand cover version from The Thomas Crown Affair originally recorded for the Crepuscule movie compilation Moving Soundtracks. Contemporary reviews for Shiver:"Intrepid undercover agent disguised as a top international fashion model sets out on a secret mission behind the Iron Curtain, armed only with a firm sense of fair play and a gadget-filled powder compact" (NME); "Euro-eccentric. Virna Lindt casts herself as a mysterious blonde in a loving pastiche of Continental movie music" (Sounds); "Only the surly amongst you can fail to acknowledge the splendour of Virna Lindt's new single I Experienced Love, and the equally thrilling Shiver lp, the epitome of Compact's sleek, chic Sixties tease" (The Face); "Imagine a pastiche of all those old Sixties spy series, like Danger Man, The Avengers and The Man From Uncle. Well, this would be the perfect soundtrack to go with it" (London Evening Standard). The CD also features a deluxe 12 page booklet featuring original artwork and detailed dossier on Virna Lindt. Also available: Virna Lindt: Play/Record (LTMCD 2489), V/a : A Young Person's Guide to Compact (LTMCD 2488).

Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love
Ends of June (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3rd)
PS, US Initially intended as musical outlet for Kelly Dyson, Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love's full inception came in the form of a sudden, unplanned collaboration between Kelly and vocalist Natalia Brightmore. Instant musical chemistry coupled with a brief period of writing & recording yielded a complete body of bittersweet, forthright folk songs, self-released on the band's own Birds and Rodents label (UK) in 2004. Two years later, after randomly stumbling upon some breathtaking Low Low clips online, Portland, OR label Other Electricities realized there was something unique brewing overseas. The band with the impossibly long name occupied space in their ears and repeated listens only further reinforced the fascination. The two parties eventually got to talking and came to the conclusion that this music needed to reach a wider audience; these sounds just couldn't be slept on much longer. Ends of June is Low Low's second outing and first U.S. release, boasting twelve new, intimate tracks saturated in the same undeniable warmth and familiarity offered on their debut. Here, the music's immediacy and accessibility fails to wane even slightly, building upon the solid groundwork laid in the first album. Natalia's amicable departure and a change in line-up, currently featuring Kelly Dyson (guitar, lead vocals), Ellis Dyson (drums, clarinet, percussion), Chris Robinson (guitar, vocals), Hugo Edwardes (bass), Nick Guy (vocals, percussion), and Brian Lutchmiah (vocals, percussion), has filled out Low Low now more of a band then an "acoustic folk duo". Despite these alterations, no element of overall sound is compromised as new paths are traversed with regards to instrumentation and arrangement. Self recorded and produced in Ellis' bedroom studio, Ends of June showcases Low Low's progressive and deft grasp on songwriting. From the pensive yet infectious "The Way You Play," to the fluid lullaby "Happiness at the New Day," it's near-impossible to deny the resultant intrigue of each composition, and of the record as a whole. These songs beckon to be taken in again and again... Collectively, the band members live and work in and around Manchester, England. To date, they have shared stages with the likes of Regina Spektor and Six Organs of Admittance. Plans are currently being made for a re-master/reissue of Low Low's s/t debut, which should be available in wider release mid-2007. "As acoustic documents of the breakdown of a long-term relationships go, this is up there. Recorded lo-fi style - in a bedroom apparently - this affecting release combines breathless harmonies and fragile tunes to achieve a strange warmth. Also makes Belle & Sebastian sound like Motorhead." - The Crack "Rooted firmly in the world of low/no-fi folk, this is a charming record that recalls the same juxtaposition of fragility and strength of character that suffused the early Elliott Smith albums." - Tangents. For Fans Of: Devendra Banhart, Iron & Wine, Six Organs of Admittance, Nick Drake Songs of Green Pheasant.

Merzbow
Merzbear (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 27TH)
PS, US Author, activist, painter and sound artist Masami Akita had been at the foreground of experimental music for over 25 years. Inspired by psycedelic rock, free jazz, early electronic composition as well the physical arts, especially Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau, Masami Akita has created a musical language all his own. Merzbear is the sixth Merzbow release in his utterly essential Merz series for Important Records. Merzbear pulses and pounds with distorted
droning heavy guitar feedback, pulsing noise-blasts and swirling analog sounds of Akita's distinct EMS Sythi. Like most of Merzbow's recordings, Merzbear is a significant document of his ever evolving improvisational style. Slowly, he's been moving away from his pure laptop era and reincorporating elements of his pre-laptop analog days w/ his homemade junk guitar, EMS Synthi & electronics. This hybrid sound brings the past into the present and pounds with total junk-collage Dada urgency as only Masami Akita can do it. Cover art by Jenny Akita.

Remate
No Land Recordings (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, SPAIN REMATE is a musician trained in classical music since was wearing short trousers and long socks. His first hero was a heroine, a skinny Bielorrusian piano teacher, who taught him how to play piano for hours without hurting his hands and wrists. The second hero was a Southafrican guitar teacher with a curly toupée, who instilled him the significance of the posture if you wish to turn into a good guitarist. After these pre-Olympics he became a singer-songwriter without limits: from folk to blues, from rock to gospel, from country to pop, always with the ambition of the one who knows that you must deserve your own influences, and that having style means much more than quoting other stylists. His distinctive features are, apart from playing piano avoiding pain, and having a good posture and/or a stance of defiance with the guitar... to be a very good singer, sometimes high-pitched ("Ballads Don't Change Things", 2004), and keen (also in person); at the beginning his voices sounded like a drunk Ry Cooder or between J. J. Cale and Neil Young; then (since "On Junk", 2005) a cocktail of Kurt Wagner (Lambchop) and Wagner without Kurt (he would have a voice as cavernous as his operas). Lately his singing has been non dissimilar to Bob Dylan yapping in a small town library. The process, of course, finally turns up to Remate's signing to Acuarela for a brand new ouvre created like a labour of love. "No land Recordings", his new double album with 25 songs, is jam-packed with clouds of latex, giant wings, toxic passion, dinosaurs, enemies, falls, one-eyed singers, pain in vain, kitties and beautiful ladies, love at first sight, howls, fireflies, propeller beanies, TV shows, sports, calls, Superman, glowing colours, bankruptcy, tenderness, mends. Whereabouts are the best songs being born? Where do they grow up like unhappy children? Which are the shops where you can buy propeller beanies?

Rough Bunnies
Weisse Westen, Dreck Am Stecken (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 10TH)
PS, US LIMITED TO 200. I once saw an interview with the members of Nirvana talking about when they toured with Shonen Knife and would cry every night while they watched their set out of sheer joy and unrivaled beauty. I didn't think much about it or even try to understand that feeling until my band played a festival in Sweden last year and the Rough Bunnies played right before us. Hailing from Malmo, this duo (with occasional guests) encapsulates a sense of innocence, joy, confusion and real youth style feelings and communicates them in a way so honestly it's hard to look away, whether or not you like the music. All the elements of ameturish-yet-immediate songwriting and musicianship that go into the songs of the Rough Bunnies could illicit comparisons to bands that came before with a similar vibe; the Velvet Underground, Beat Happening, the Vaselines, Moldy Peaches, Shonen Knife, et al.. but paying attention and really getting to know the group, you come to understand that they're not just another band that SOUNDS like those lifechanging, unsung, widely overlooked and underrated groups, nor are they trying to coyly mimic that feeling. The Rough Bunnies are the next band on that page of history, a beautiful and amazing, if dog-eared and tea stained page. This LP is their first, following three extremely limited CDRs available

Rumskib
Self-Titled (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 8TH)
PS, US Darla is proud to release the debut record by Danish nu-gaze group Rumskib. Rumskib is the Odense, Denmark duo of Keith Canisius (Guitarist, Vocalist, Composer, Producer) and Tine Louise Kortermand (Singer). Keith produced the debut record with Jonas Munk (Manual), who programmed the beats, made the electronic sounds, and played synthesizer. Rumskib's debut record begins with a Simple Minds New Gold Dream style intro. A rough & repetitive MBV Loveless style guitar line kicks in. Next an aggressive baggy beat begins to pump making Rumskib sound nearly like Curve. Then a very lovely surprise: A very pretty, Lush style guitar change comes and simultaneously the wall of sound vocal harmonies begin - like Emma, Miki... and Bjork! There's no denying Rumskib are derivative, however, Rumskib has such command of all the genre's key sound elements and their own pop songs are so damn good the band gloriously claim the new shoegaze sound as their own. Rumskib's sound is at once modern and classic, blending a strong love for early 90s shoegazer bands such as Chapterhouse and Lush with the sensibilities of grand Scandinavian 80s pop such as A-Ha and Roxette, all flavored with harsh noise-rock guitars and crunchy micro-programmed beats. Sometimes their sound is up-tempo, almost danceable like The Cardigans meet St. Etienne. At other times their sound is thick, heavy, and romantic recalling The Cocteau Twins or Simple Minds. Rumskib manage to be both surrealist and accessible; complex but straight forward. Vocalist Tine Louise creates harmonies so beautiful one would think they came from some mysterious wonderland (or Victorialand?) and Keith Canisius' lyrical call & response guitar playing is intelligent and evocative. Combine all this with well crafted compositions and Jonas Munk's trademark head-spinning, multi-layered sound sculptures, and you've got a work of undeniable beauty. Track list: 01. Hearts On fire, 02. Springtime, 03. Dreampoppers Tribute, 04. Where Are The Flowers, 05. Ferris Wheel Blackout, 06. Think Eyes Away, 07. You're My Japan, 08. Sneak, 09. Crucial Love Games, 10. Ovation Outsiders, 11. Girl Afraid, 12. Love At First Sight. Sincere Trade
Between You And Me (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3RD)
PS, CANADA Carl W. Heindl aka Sincere Trade has been creating a stir in the Toronto electronic music scene for the past couple of years and we are pleased to give you Sincere Trade's second album "Between You And Me" the follow up to his debut album "If You Cannot Beat Them" (Dross:tik Records). Sincere Trade shows his penchant for cerebral micro-dot dance music, texturing complex beats that twist and decay over lush gloomy pads, the chatter of static and broken vocal shards, A deeply emotional weave of melody and rhythm lending to a massive cinematic sound. Highly evocative.

Slipstream
Transcendental (plus Yellow 6 Remix disc) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3RD)
PS, UK Reissue. Hailing from Northampton, England, itself just a short space hop from Rugby, the mythical home to eminent space psych heavyweights, Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized and the musical equivalent of Area 51, to the X-File-phobes among you. Where prior to Slipstream Refoy cut his teeth as a member of both these legendary ensembles, appearing on Spacemen 3's final album 'Recurring' before space walking to join the cosmic crew of Jason Pierce and Spiritualized. Elegant guitar signatures romance the inner senses creating a calming sea like tranquillity, all the while instilling a sensation of travelling on a single seated galactic roller coaster across the universe, intoxicated by the ebb and flow of the hypnotic kaleidoscope textures, colourful, tender, charming and tripping. From the opening track, the sensually touching 'Everything and Anything' to the Stylus like hollowed atmospherics of 'Claire's ghost' featuring the narration talents of comic book writer, Alan Moore (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), 'Transcendental' explores and utilises feelings, styles, imaginations and tempers them to sublime effect. The dreamy drone sultriness of 'Sophie's blues', the awesome magnificence of 'Tonight's the night' parading a fusion of the Dream Academy and the musical 'Cats', the space blues of 'Midnight train', the Lennon / Lloyd Cole -isms of 'I know nothing' and the monumental Bunneymen-esque driving 60's psyche apocalyptic groove of 'Deep in the night'. A perfect cruise control companion for the dreamers and spaced out cadets. Finally to give one last special touch to Transcendental, Refoy invited respected fellow artist, Jon Attwood, AKA Yellow 6, to do some exclusive extended remixes for the album, Y6 working his unique trademark mastery of magic and sonic terraforming onto the proceedings to breathtaking expectations!

Stafraenn Hakon
Gummi (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 17TH)
PS, UK Much-anticipated brand new full length from one of the leading lights of Iceland's burgeoning alternative music scene, following 2004's "Ventill/Poki" and the accompanying debut UK tour. Stafraenn Hakon is the pseudonym of Olafur Josephsson, and "Gummi" is his fourth album release for UK indie Resonant - the first two effectively being full releases for his bedroom recordings. While "Ventill/Poki" represented his first material recorded with a supporting cast - a progression that was very evident in comparison to his previous output - "Gummi" marks a further giant leap forward in every respect. Having established himself as a predominantly instrumental artist, Josephsson will surprise many with the inclusion of six full vocal tracks among the nine included here - featuring Birgir Hilmarsson (Blindfold/Ampop) on five tracks and Efterklang's Casper Clausen on one, alongside other guest musicians and collaborators. While recognising the need to constantly evolve in order to maintain and expand upon your audience, the key elements that have always marked out Stafraenn Hakon from the crowded post-rock platform are still very much in place; delicate, intricate instrumentation and atmospherics, building slowly and organically, drawing in the listener. Sure to be his biggest album to date, "Gummi" is housed in a full colour CD wallet featuring stunning hand-drawn artwork, and will be supported by UK tour dates around the release.

Stefana, Alessandro
Poste E Telegraffi (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 27TH)
Ps, US Poste E Telegrafi is the debut solo album from Italian guitarist Allesandro Stefana. Featuring an allstar cast including Mark Ribot & Leo Abrahams, Stefana creates a dreamy world of instrumental perfection and beauty. Inspired by the work of Ennio Morricone, Ry Cooder, Simon Jeffes, Steve Reich and Brian Eno, he has created a thoroughly modern Western world within his compositions and arrangements. With constant references to traditional music and rural blues he utilizes electric and acoustic instrumentation with tremendously compelling results. Acoustic, electric, and pedal steel guitars along with banjo, kalimba, baliphones and found objects were all carefully combined with some primitive electronic instruments such as an arpeggiator, omnichord and home made vinyl loops. His sound is entirely original yet clearly rooted in traditions such as Film Music, Blues, Experimental, Ambient and Avante Garde musics. Stefana manages his cast of collaborators very well. Most tracks on Poste E Telegrafi are duets with these musicians keeping the sound and arrangement simple and pure. Instruments breathe and pulse with life and excitement in this highly original album. To call this a "promising debut" would be to dismiss the tremendous success delivered by Poste E Telegrafi.

Submerged
Stars Lights The End (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 1ST)
PS, CANADA SUBMERGED teams up with Grammy award winning producer BILL LASWELL, avant-garde Japanese trumpeter TOSHINORI KONDO and drummer GUY LICATA a second time to give us the follow up to last years Method of Defiance "The Only Way To Go Is Down" album and his first solo titled album SUBMERGED "STARS LIGHTS THE END". Once again we find bass arrangements of infinite complexity by Bill Laswell mashing with Kondo's horns while distorted guitars and abrasive synths battle against one another all the while producing a perfect fusion between instrumental and software generated music. "Guy Licata, is a monster, he has got the skills to compete with any software geek in beat mangling, reaching easily two hundred BPMs." - Igloo Magazine. Submerged "Stars Lights The End" keeps Method of Defiance's hard edged drum n bass blasts, experimental dub and jazz elements only this time leans slightly toward a more aggresive sound than "The Only Way to Go Is Down". Stars Lights The End features bruising sound edits and beat contributions from Corrupt Souls, D`nee and Mark Filip. Expect extreme high quality sound again courtesy of Michael Fossenkemper who also mastered Method Of Defiance's "The Only Way To Go is Down".

Van Doesburg, Petro
Repertoire De Stijl: Bauhaus: Dada (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 15TH)
PS, UK LTM are pleased to present an overview of the avant-garde piano repertoire of Pétro van Doesburg, performed at various De Stijl, Dada and Bauhaus soirees in Europe between 1920 and 1925. Born in Holland in 1899, Pétro met De Stijl movement founder and propagandist Theo van Doesburg in 1920. Over the next decade the couple lived in Wiemar (where Theo was associated with the influential Bauhaus art and architecture school) and then Paris. A Conservatory-trained pianist, Pétro accompanied her husband's lectures with selected modernist piano pieces, and also performed at Salon Dada soirees organised by Theo with Kurt Schwitters in Holland and Germany in 1922/23. Following Theo's death in 1931, Pétro established the De Stijl archive and was a buyer for Peggy Guggenheim. She died in 1975. The material on this 76 minute CD includes pieces by Erik Satie, Josef Matthias Hauer, Arnold Schoenberg, Francis Poulenc, Arthur Honegger and Jacob van Domselaer, whose austere Proeven van Stijlkunst (1913-17) offers an application of Piet Mondrian's neo-plastic principles to musical composition. The music is performed by noted Dutch pianist Peter Beijersbergen van Henegouwen. The CD also features a deluxe booklet featuring archive images and detailed historical notes by James Hayward.

Venetian Snares
Pink+Green (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 3RD)
PS, CANADA Venetian Snares, aka Gonk the 8-legged Viking, is back with yet another record that sounds nothing like Boards of Canada! From the catchy title track opener "Pink + Green" which blends demented punk vocals with hyper-complex grooves and gut gurgling bass blasts you can just tell this is something fresh and funky from producer Aaron "funk" Funk. Not to worry though the sub-rattling low-end blasts and jackhammering hardcore anthems are still here and in full effect on tracks like "Sporto Fucking Sellout Cocksuckerface" and "Husikam Rave Dojo" that revisit the days of pilled out candy raving. This is cyberpunk at it's finest! Welcome to the interzone! 15 year old K-heads will love this shit! If you hated albums like Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole and Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006, you will hate this even more! This is not some crybaby n00bcore bullshit, this is rave at it's roughest like only Mr. Snares can bring it.

Voyces, The
Kissing Like It's Love (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 24TH)
PS, US After one listen to The Voyces Planting Seeds Records' debut -"Kissing Like It's Love" - and you'll be hooked to their glowing tuneful style. The band echoes the sounds of pop music's past as well as its ever so fervent future. Principal songwriter Brian Wurschum creates the well crafted pop song, recalling the mid 60's era of The Beatles, the folk rock of Simon & Garfunkel, and the 70's mini rock epics ala Pink Floyd. Their style maybe placed in a box and labeled anywhere from: Rock, Folk Rock, Acoustic Folk Rock, New York Folk, and everywhere in between. The sunny California shine of the title track "Kissing Like It's Love" launches the groups long awaited LP with it's sugary sweet chorus. The soft ballad "Hair Up High" follows with its elegant smooth guitar strums and the band's signature harmonies. The majestic beauty of "Call It Home" continues the album's melodic element, while the introspective acoustic interlude "Please Wash Away" appears with its stripped down heartfelt vocals, acoustic guitar and light piano taps. "Humming" chimes in with one of the catchiest refrains you'll hear this decade - instantly memorable. "Top Of My Lungs," showcases even more of the Wurschum magic: Jangly guitars, soaring harmonies, and a song destined to be a classic. The album's closing number - the delicate "Where The Little Girls Still Throw Roses," features Brian's warm vocal, light guitar picking and makes for the perfect ending. Whether blending funky pop, epic rockers or near psychedelia, "Kissing Like It's Love" collects ten tracks of pure pop heaven you're sure to fall for. The Voyces are led by singer/songwriter Brian Wurschum (Guitar, Vocals) and also features Jude Kastle (Vocals), Frank Careno (Bass), Steve Dawson (Lead Guitar) and Eric Puente (Drums). The band was formed in 1999, with its origins in Southern California. Brian and company later moved east to New York City and was quickly embraced by the east villages' anti-folk scene. The Voyces have shared stages with acts as diverse as America, Cracker, and Regina Spektor among countless others - while frequenting venues (both in California and New York) such as the famed Whiskey A-Go-Go, The Troubadour, The Bowery Ballroom, The Mercury Lounge, The Knitting Factory and The Roxy. Live dates are sure to follow in support of "Kissing Like It's Love." The Voyces have created an impressive catalog of music. Their first self released LP, 2003's "The Angels Of Fun" showcased their fine blend of folk rock and celestial harmonies. The acoustic gem "Relate To Me" was featured on Jack Johnson's Motion Picture Soundtrack, "Thicker Than Water" (2003) furthering the groups worldwide fan base. They followed in 2004 with an appearance on Planting Seeds Records critically acclaimed collection "Sunsets And Silhouettes," which also features amazing performances from Linda Draper, Camera Obscura, Mark Gardener (Ride) and Freeheat (Jim Reid and Ben Lurie of The Jesus & Mary Chain) among the 18 tracks. In 2006 the band contributed the song "Poor Little Fool" to a loving tribute to rock legend and country rock pioneer Rick Nelson, titled "Easy To Be Free: The Songs of Rick Nelson" - with performances from pop Icons Marshall Crenshaw, Jeffrey Foskett (Beach Boys, Brian Wilson), John Beland (Flying Burrito Brothers), Nic Dalton (The Lemonheads), John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), The Primary 5 (ex Teenage Fanclub) and many more. The band also released "Love Arcade" in 2006 - a collection of the bands hits, demos, and fan favorites.
