5ive
Hesperus
PS, US Boston's 5ive were a two-piece with no vocalist or bass player long before being instrumental and having an unorthodox band assemblage became "cool". They have a Kyuss style guitar tone without the bad vocals. Their debut full-length was one of Terrorizer magazine's top twenty of 2001. "Ben Carr's guitars are thickly layered without the sound becoming mushy. The distortion he gets out of his amp makes his riffing sound like balls of flame. Charlie Harrold's drumming complements the guitar playing exceptionally; these are two musicians that are well in tune with each other" - Brainwashed.com.

Abrahams, Chris + Mike Cooper
Oceanic Feeling-Like
PS, AUSTRALIA "The sea pronounces something, over and over, in a hoarse whisper; I cannot quite make it out." ~Annie Dillard It's this musical whisper that is amplified on Oceanic Feeling-Like, as Italian based musician Mike Cooper and Australia's Chris Abrahams unite for the first time to create what can only be described as a picturesque horizon of melodic ocean swell. Stretching out horizon-wide, Oceanic Feeling-Like is generously colored with Cooper's unique guitar approaches and Abrahams distinctive piano motions. Both musicians bring with them a wealth of technique and improvised flare that is brought to bear over a series of island like compositions, that eventually form an unusually divergent sound archipelago. Recorded in Sydney at Abrahams' home studio, each of the pieces explores a unique post-marine sound space - that's both reflective and reflexive. Truly a release that ebbs and flows in the best way imaginable. An ocean of sound awaits - sometimes calm and flowing, occasionally choppy and unexpected, but always experiential. Mike Cooper for the past 40 years British guitarist Mike Cooper has traced a path completely his own. An international musical explorer, performing and recording, solo and in a number of inspired groupings and a variety of genres. Initially a folk-blues guitarist and singer songwriter his work has diversified to include improvised and electronic music, live music for silent films, radio art, field recording and sound installations. Chris Abrahams "(His) relentless and steady patterning started to metamorphose the nature of the piano, the upper chords sounding like a distant locomotive hoot, and then an accordion weaving in and out of a shimmering bank of flutes". The Wire, UK 2001.

Accidental, The
Knock Knock (Tunng Mix) / Brave New World (Benge Mix)
PS, UK Fripp and Eno, Gainsbourg and Vannier, Kuti and Allen - two's company, and great musicians often travel in pairs. The Accidental is a pairing of Sam Genders (Tunng) and Stephen Cracknell (The Memory Band, Gorodisch, co-founder of Trunk Records). This single is their first outing as well as a forerunner for a debut full-length album, due in Spring 2008. As a founder member of Tunng, Sam Genders is an extraordinary songwriter, melding Lewis Carroll's flights of fancy with all the pathos of a 19th Century Russian novelist - a tragic-comic outlook on life and fascination with both the natural and unnatural, like Gogol with a guitar. With Tunng, his well-drawn tales weave in and out of the bobbing electronics, crafting electro-tinged folk songs which pulse and caress with equal measure, combining an easy melodicism with the band's expansive touch. Stephen Cracknell has a similarly attuned ear for the properties which link the acoustic and pastoral with the synthetic sounds of electronica, managing to conjure an organically simple fusion of elements which is defiantly modern. Under the moniker of the Memory Band, Cracknell's sleight of hand has seen him essay that relationship between the traditional folk lament and the circular, glitchy stylings heard on his electronic output as Gorodisch. This seven-inch release marks the first airing of material by the Accidental, featuring remixes of two of the songs slated for inclusion on their forthcoming debut album. Knock Knock is remixed by fellow Tunng lynchpin Mike Lindsay, the scratchy atmosphere and booming beats lending it a distinctly tribal feel, while bass frequencies lurch and stretch underneath plaintive vocals. On the reverse is the Benge remix of Brave New World - a slice of blissful electronica akin to Four Tet sitting down for tea and scones with Animal Collective, while snaking rhythms rattle alongside cut-up vocals and odd percussive flourishes. Slip on the headphones and drift away. Limited to 500 copies on seven inch wax only. Vinyl comes in a harvest house bag with print.

Antarctica Takes It!
The Penguin League
PS, US Debut album by a four piece, from Santa Cruz, CA, whose joyous folk pop has been compared to Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists and Beirut. A bedroom band put together by 22-year-old Dylan McKeever, Antarctica Takes It! recorded the songs on "The Penguin League" straight onto a friend's laptop, using the computer's internal microphone. No problem if you're a straightforward rock'n'roll band, but Dylan's songs boasted an array of accordions, glockenspiels, cellos, ukuleles, trumpets, harmonicas and pianos. The result should have been extremely lo-fi - and in places it is (you can actually hear the instruments battling for airspace at some points). But, overall, thanks to Dylan's patience and prodigious talent, "The Penguin League" conjures a tiny orchestra out of thin air. From the opening "I'm No Lover", which sees mariachi horns collide with a rattling folk melody, to the magical "Flightless Birds", which transports "Pet Sounds" to the Antarctic wastes, this is a record that sounds like it's anywhere but a suburban bedroom on the American West Coast. In fact, lyrically and spiritually, Antarctica Takes It! reside, as their names suggests, slightly further south. The album's highlight, "Antarctica", sees the band knee deep in a polar expedition, while the photos for the cover and CD booklet were provided by Dr Samuel Silverstein, who headed the 1967 American Antarctic Mountaineering Expedition. Dr Silverstein also writes about his photos in the booklet, which makes this the first album to be released with sleeve notes by an Antarctic explorer. Press/Radio: Reviews in Uncut, NME, The Guardian, Plan B, Pitchfork, PopMatters, with more TBC.

Antietam
Opus Mixtum
PS, US First album in their 25 year career that combines the ferocity of their calling card stage show, the quiet acoustic moments of TARA KEY's solo recordings, their pristine pop & sprawling instrumental ambience. Flying just below the radar for more than 20 years, but always making uncompromising music and maintaining a deeply devoted fan base throughout the world, Antietam play raw rock and roll that is nearly impossible to define. Originally, the double-CD, triple-LPOpus Mixtum was supposed to be two separate, distinct releases: one a powerful rock record tracked at the band's new home-away-from-home, Brooklyn's Seaside Lounge, with producer (and now auxiliary live band member) Josh Clark, tracked on two-inch tape in a beautiful live room and finally allowing the band to truly capture the fire of their live performances; and the other a sprawling, loopy and diverse instrumental album constructed piece by piece in Tara and Tim's digital home studio. Somewhere along the way the albums became tangled together. The title Opus Mixtum comes from a method of laying brick in ancient Rome that combined rectangular and diagonal patterns, but the band uses it to connote the mix of three styles -- Antietam rock, the acoustic pop of Tara Key solo releases, and the instrumental soundtracks of their lives. Piece in Mark Howell's horns, Katie Gentile's (Run On, Special Pillow) violins, and Rick Rizzo (Eleventh Dream Day) on stunt guitar and the album flows effortlessly through its varying moods-- instrumental passages disappear into hooky pop, Tara's defining guitar is enveloped by Hammond organ or a lush string passage, and then the pounding rock and roll of the classic trio punches through. So you get pop with "Turn It on Me," rock with "Pennants and Flags," and just pure melody with "March Echo" and "Steel G." As they say in Louisville, if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes.

Apes, The
Ghost Games
PS, US POPMATTERS: "Forgoing lead guitar for shambling, sinister organ licks, DC post-punk outfit the Apes strike a strange middle-ground between minimalism and maximalism. Lacking guitar accompaniment, Jeff Schmid's drums and and Erick Jackson's bass tend operate in spare cages of plunging rhythms and blurting stabs, and when the keys afford them some space, the whole feels crisply open. However, just as often as organist Amanda Bynes allows herself to be constrained by the others' rhythms, she surges past and breaks free, letting her organ swell to fill every gap with psychedelic squeal."

Architect
I Went Out Shopping To Get Some Noise
PS, GERMANY Reissue. Ever prolific, Haujobb's Daniel Myer returns for a second album as architect, I went out shopping to get some noise. Myer's previous architect album, 1998's galactic supermarket, leant toward the darker threads of technoid drum'n'bass (panacea, tarmvred, etc). For I went out shopping to get some noise, Myer reigns in the breaks to toss down thirteen mind-bendingly tight electro-acid-industrial-techno cuts, each bearing Myer's signature dark flair and impeccable production. Comparisons range from afx and caustic window on 'track 7' to emotive digital synthpop like early attaché on 'track 5.' not to be outdone by other sample-aholics, Myer ensnares the ultimate - Beethoven's moonlight sonata - and contorts it into a neoromantic opus on 'track 6.' if this is what Myer means by noise, the rest of the musical world has a lot of catching up to do to touch architect.

Beat Circus
Dreamland
PS, US This second full length album is a uniquely fierce and magical record composed by singer/songwriter Brian Carpenter, who delivers dark narrative songs of Deadwood saloons, gangsters from The Bowery, Coney Island sideshows, and the Santa Fe Railway. Loosely based on historical events associated with turn of the century New York, Dreamland is the culmination of a two-year effort by Beat Circus and marks the first installment of Brian Carpenter's Weird American Gothictrilogy. Brian leads a 9-piece band with a unique & exciting instrumentation: pump organ, trumpet, violin, viola, cello, accordion, jawharp, tuba, trombone, banjo, mandolin, saxophones drums and percussion. Dreamland was engineered and produced by legendary NY producer Martin Bisi (SONIC YOUTH, FOETUS, DRESDEN DOLLS, BARBEZ).

Belong
Colorloss Record
PS, US While BELONG still considers these cover songs, what we are presented with are shells, the ghosts of what we think we know about such a fleeting medium as music in the first place. And like the title implies, the music sounds weathered, a faded version of some original we might only imagine. As a record of covers, it sounds like the sonic palimpsest that it is exactly. On "Colorloss", one finds a humble treatment of the hierarchy of sounds. It is the equal attention given to each sound and its place in the mix that makes this a true musical democracy where each element shines in its own way, while propping up the others in a puzzle that would charm Archimedes. A wash of fuzz finds itself meandering thru a track holding hands with the vocals, the space between a breathe before the next submergence. What we have as a result is work of such staggering beauty and melodic thoughtfulness to stop KEVIN SHIELDS in his tracks at the wonder of it. And while the instrumentation and means might be different, this is a music that has as much in common with late 20th-century composition in the vein of JOHN CALE or TONY CONRAD as it does with the soundscapes of WILLIAM BASINSKI or MY BLOODY VALENTINE.

Big Fresh
B.F.F. (Big Fresh Forever)
PS, US New album from Lexington, KY avant-garde superheroes Big Fresh, featuring members of The Apples In Stereo and Ullysses. Crystalline pop rainbows beamed through a prism. An ambitious tapestry of danceable hits, bubbling soundscapes, electric light harmonies, and synthetic orchestrations from Lexington, Kentucky's avant-garde heroes (including members of The Apples in stereo and Ulysses). Produced by Big Fresh in their home laboratory over a seven-year period, and mastered by Robert Schneider (The Apples in stereo, Elephant 6), the shining sounds of this album will transport you to another world. LEXINGTON HERALD-LEDGER: "For more than a decade, the band has mixed summery soul, pop, dance grooves and more into a bright sound all its own. Within B.F.F.'s grooves...you sense a spring thaw is at hand." OPTICAL ATLAS: "B.F.F. plays like a great lost prog-rock album, as though Brian Wilson had tried to revisit Smile in the 70's with help from ELO."

Bon Iver
For Emma, Forever Ago
PS, US This debut is centered around a particular aesthetic; Justin Vernon, the primary force behind Bon Iver, moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter, alone for three months. This solitary time fed a bold, uninhibited new musical focus. All his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss, and guilt that had been stockpiled over the past six years was suddenly purged into song. The NY Times called this record "irresistible", and it was given a "Recommeded" rating by Pitchfork. RIYL: Iron & Wine, M. Ward, and Elliott Smith.

British Sea Power
Do You Like Rock Music?
PS, US New album! ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The band has crafted a wintry, nuanced, and bold collection of epic songs that integrate the sweeping theatricality of Arcade Fire-era indie rock without all of the insularity. This is music made for people, not a person. The sound effects, choral vocals, strings, and feedback that populate DYLRM feel organic and necessary rather than just pasted in for drama's sake. There has always been a sort of rough-hewn sepia-tone unity to BSP songs, and that odd, inclusive wartime fervor permeates each track." FOUR 1/2 STARS!

Down To The Wire
PS, US Luis Garban of Venezuela has released heaps of records these past couple years for labels such as Ad Noiseam, Peace-off, Intellectual Violence, Mirex, Cock Rock Disco & Wrong Music, but for Terminal Dusk he reveals his passion for dubstep. 'Down To The Wire' contains high energy levels, sick low bass and brilliantly selected reggae samples. This album is executed perfectly and includes remixes from two fellow dubstep heads: Atki2 & Starkey. Side A kicks off with 'Maybe Next Time' dropping the warbly and brutal bass and some hot B-boy samples. Give in to the head nod effect. Next up is 'Keep On Truckin' with a wall of low end synth leads & Bollywood style atmospheres. Rounding off the A side is 'Knock Yuh Out' and it's a badman, turning up the energy. Flip for the B side and 'Everything Is A New Surprise' kicks in with an ultra disgusting bassline & pitched up bongos, massive! Next are the remixes, Starkey starts it off with his remix of 'Knock Yuh Out' which takes the original to another level, slows it down a bit, and offers some proper dubstep swagger. Atki2 finishes the record with his rendition of 'Keep On Truckin', bringing the Bristol styles, a classic remix.

Carrots
Anthology
PS, JAPAN An anthology of the best songs of genius Spanish psychedelic pop band, Carrots, who designed soundscapes full of colored fantasy and baroque flavor. They wear their influences--the Beatles and the Beach Boys--on their sleeves, bridging genres and generations with tinges of funk, rock, and (gasp) country. Much to our regret, they have broken up, so you can regard the stamp sheet artwork as a bittersweet souvenir. We love Carrots!!! Jangling electric and acoustic guitars, breezy vocals and even breezier harmonies (we're talking 'Breakfast In America'), eyelash-fluttering synths and piano, the good vibes flowing from the speakers are intoxicating! How is it that one band can sound like Squeeze and Stereolab and Supergrass and The Beach Boys and The Buggles and The Byrds, at the same time? Heck, we' ve already tagged them with some respectable names, yet still feel compelled name-drop a few more, the likes of Sloan, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Bikeride, Supertramp, Primal Scream, Kevin Ayers, The Posies' happiest songs, they all figure in here, with mucho gusto! Contents Are, The
Through You
PS, GERMANY The Contents Are: Dave Neumann (guitar, vocals); Paul Staack (drums, vocals); Larry Smith (bass, vocals); and Craig Hute (lead guitar, vocals) from Iowa. The Contents Are were one of many '60s bands from the Quad City's fertile garage music scene. With labels/studios like Fredlo and IGL, it was a very healthy regional area for bands with an unusually high per capita for record releases. Up until the recent discovery of an original copy a couple years ago, it was only rumored to exist and remained an enigma with hardcore record collectors. In most cases, The Contents Are were only known by astute collectors for their two excellent 45 releases (non-LP). Well the mystery is over, and here's your chance to hear one of the most rare and greatest garage records ever recorded. Here's the story about the record: four high school seniors from Iowa decide to release an album of all original tunes, exclusively sold at their live shows. Originally released on the Rok label (a subsidiary of the already obscure Fredlo label) in 1967 with only 100 copies pressed. These guys were not your typical garage band - talented players, professional grade vocalists and no cover songs! Their music is a nice blend of garage rock with hints of hipster folk and early psychedelic influences. As good if not better as other similar top-shelf rarities like Mystery Meat and the Bachs, but without a major quantity release, making original copies of their recordings ten times rarer. Get it or miss it! CD jewel case with 8-page booklet, plus 4 bonus non-LP tracks from singles.

Dead Science
Tomlab Alphabet Series: V
PS, US The "V" single, and the two songs contained therein, will be a sort of satellite of THE DEAD SCIENCE'S next album, "Villainaire", a record dealing with a very specific period of time in singer Sam Mickens' life and, more generally, in the embrace of personal nihilism and the potential psychic luxury of amorality. The A-Side, "Make Mine Marvel (Remix)" will be, in the style of R. Kelly's remix work, a completely new song, with completely new melodic and lyrical content, built on components of the original "make Mine Marvel" which will appear on "Villainaire". The B-Side, "White Mane," was a song initially intended and recorded for the album, but which will be exclusively here instead. "White Mane" is, in fragmentary and impressionistic fashion, about the American film actor Robert Blake, both in his own recent life and in terms of his relationship to certain past roles.

Denny, Sandy
S-T
PS, US Perhaps the greatest British folk singer of all time, she first came to prominence in the quintessential British folk band, the Fairport Convention. Her singing and songwriting took the band to unimaginable heights and proved her to be a true talent of the last century. After leaving Fairport in 1970, she continued to produce solo work. Differnet
Collapsing Universe
PS, SWEDEN "Differnet's 2007 album finds the Swedish quartet again grappling with compositions that don't quite comfortably fit into any obvious form of popular music-crackling sounds of insects and general everyday noise meshes with slow cascades of synth strings and an extremely slow, deliberate rhythm before suddenly breaking into a vocal and drums break that could be a nervous soundtrack to a car chase. And this is all on the first song "Pattern of Parklands," which still doesn't describe everything in the piece-without specifically pushing sonic boundaries Differnet here again demonstrate more of the possibilities to be found in flowing collages of styles that reincorporate familiar rock, dance and other moves into a more modern approach." - Ned Raggett, All Music Guide. "They're almost like a Friendly Noise version of the Knife, but more personal. Includes a killer cover of Eurhythmics' 'Savage!'" - Other Music, NYC Influences: Throbbing Gristle, Franz Schubert, Cocteau Twins, Oval, Pet Shop Boys, Bernard Parmegiani, Einstuerzende Neubauten, New Order, Wire, Pierre Henry, Propaganda, Durutti Column... TRACK LIST: 1. Patterns of Parklands 2. Caring Arms 3. Savage 4. Prediction and Event 5. Survival Kit 6. Electricity (is Not What it Used to Be) 7. Stadium 8. A Fairy Tale

DJ Donna Summer
Panther Tracks
PS, UK He's back! It's been 2 years since Jason Forrest released his last full-length album, and 5 years since he's released as Donna Summer. So now he's back, this time with the slightly different moniker (DJ Donna Summer) and his first release for his own Cock Rock Disco label. Just as "Shamelessly Exciting" was a record that mixed different genres into a new mash of sampled sounds, "Panther Tracks" is a record comprised of different styles of dance music made solely with the intention to get people moving! From Booty to Breakcore, Happy Hardcore to Hardstyle, Techno to B'more Club Music, Forrest has it in there! Initially begun as a sort of remix record, "Panther Tracks" builds heavily on a variety of sampled heroes. One can hear Dj Chip and Dj Technics form the skeleton of more booty oriented tracks like "Peepers" and "Boomshakalaka". While some live recordings (on cassette) of old-school Uk Breakbeat Rave festivals by DJ Slipmat, Ratpack, and Ellis D are reconstructed to make new Breakcore styled dance tracks. Traces of Hardstyle, Techno and a whole lot of Breakcore yield such gems as "Party People", "Get Down" and "Rock Rock Rock". No style too hard or too cheesy to learn from, "Panther Tracks" is like the ultimate Rave; it's fun, slightly crazy, and will keep you dancing all night long.

Dominique A
Sur Nos Forces Motrices
PS, SPAIN Four concerts were recorded and trawled through to pick out the best of the best: those moments when the group played perfectly, captivated by and focused on the music; when it played at its best without sacrificing the level of energy that simply makes a concert; when they struck that perfect balance between the brutal, wild side, when the group really puts its foot down, and the subtlety of, at times sophisticated, arrangements, accompanied by brass and keyboards. Yes, but is it a "greatest hit" or not? Let's say it sounds like one massively, but Dominique clearly isn't making it a question of principle. For Dominique, a live version must enhance or surpass the original version. In that respect, we can be reassured. Dominique and his group have come up with a bunch of new ideas. Meaning that this album sweeps through the guy's entire career. No album is forgotten - some songs even sprout new limbs, like L'Amour, squarely presented as an overture. The pillars of his work are all here. Le courage des oiseaux, so often reinvented, has been turned here into rock-funk; La mémoire neuve, Pour la peau, Antonia are al included. The nostalgic side of Dominique A, which he could hardly convey through silence, comes out in Tout sera comme avant and Music hall. Less well known, Le commerce de l'eau and the very rare Empty white blues captivate. Lastly, as a bonus free gift, two unpublished titles have been concocted: Revoir les choses and the highly literary and deeply moving Marina. So there you have it, a new disc from Dominique A boasting no fewer than fifteen titles. A fully rounded disc that should appeal beyond his audience of fans, so much does he go beyond the famous distinction of new "chanson française" to serve up a platter of songs that are simply superb, with singing that is at times soothing and absorbing, rustled up by a top-flight quartet of musicians. It's the precise moment and the ideal way to discover or rediscover the artist that is Dominique A.

Exillon
It's Ok To Dance
PS, GERMANY Exillon brings acid to IDM, speeds things up several notch, and bombs the dance floor with a high energy album of catchy twisted club tunes. Tapping on his high production skills, "It's OK to Dance" brings back life to twisted beats and complex rhythms and does it all with a smile. It's OK to take the acid test, and certainly impossible to resist. In 2006, Exillon had helped bear the grief of IDM with "The Keening Dithers", an album which brilliantly closed chapters both for this musician and for the kind of music he had been known for. Two years later, the keening has dithered for good, and Jay Fields (Exillon) has taken his art from the moody, glitchy and modest waters of his past electronica to more daring, club-oriented and uplifting ones. It might have to do with Jay Field's relocation to San Francisco, with a more energetic, dance floor-friendly trend in electronic music or just with the evolution of an artist per se; "It's OK To Dance" is a CD in which the clear, sharp and flowing sounds that Exillon has been using since his Debut in the early 200os get mixed and mashed in a lively, bouncy way. A party album for raving robots, this album is the meeting point of Exillon's hi-fi sounds and production and a deliciously retro, 90's acid sensibility. Not satisfied with just reviving the acid sound (something which has been done by many, without much soul or innovation), Exillon makes this sound his, and draws from his experience as a beat & tone trickster to bake a whole new recipe altogether. Mixing the best of both worlds, Jay Fields reclaims the dance floor, and manages to entertain his audience without insulting the brain (something which over the year has almost become an Ad Noiseam motto). Good trip guaranteed and yes, it is really OK to dance.

Felix Kubin Und Das Mineral Orchester
Music for Theatre and Radio Play
PS, GERMANY We are extremely excited to announce the 1st collaboration between the Dekorder label and our old friend, local conspirator and private hair gardener Felix Kubin. Kubin has achieved worldwide reputation by releasing post-dadaist, futuristic NDW-influenced Organ&Korg smash hits on his own Gagarin label, on A-Musik, Ski-pp, Meeuw, Diskono et al. He has collaborated with People Like Us, Coolhaven, Mark Boombastik, Asmus Tietchens, ensemble Intégrales, David Fenech, Ergo Phizmiz, Boris D. Hegenbart, Wojtek Kucharczyk and many others. His first recordings date back to his teenage years in the early 1980's, followed by his electro acoustic noise duo Klangkrieg and the pseudo-communist Liedertafel Margot Honecker. Right from the start Felix Kubin has written and recorded music for films (hence the title of his first album) by the likes of Mariola Brillowska and Anke Feuchtenberger and continues the German tradition of "Hörspiel" (radio play) with works such as "Territerrortorium", "Nachtspeicher", "Orpheus' Psykotron" and "Syndikat für Gegenlärm" (with guest appearances by Matmos, DAT Politics and Wolfgang Müller of Die Tödliche Doris). Some of Kubin's most gorgeous and adventurous works are his contributions to "The Raft" (a radio play by the mysterious Xentos Bentos of The Homosexuals, directed by Lukas Simonis of Coolhaven, Trespassers W, Dull Schicksal) and his soundtracks for theatre plays by Branko Simic ("Zufall", based on a short story by Vladimir Nabokov) and the notorious Schorsch Kamerun. The latter (known in Germany as a member of Goldene Zitronen) directed "Hollywood Elegien" based on a song cycle by Bert Brecht and Hanns Eisler. Now the best parts of these works are for the first time available on LP and CD, simply (and aptly) titled "Music for Theatre and Radio Play". While the musical spectrum on this release covers a variety of styles and moods it's still almost immediately recognizable as a typically Kubin-ist work featuring the main ingredients his records and body-and-mind-boggling live shows are famous for. Twisted rhythms & playfully clever arrangements that could have been created by a mutated reincarnation of the legendary Juan Esquivel; hauntingly ethereal tracks sounding like a narcoleptic John Carpenter playing Angelo Badalamenti arrangements; contorted Big Band music, pre-war Schlager and Vaudeville sent through a malfunctioning pre-digital time machine; Ennio Morricone cloned as a Russian male choir; instrumental workers' songs Hanns Eisler might have imagined in a feverish nightmare - it's all there, and more!

Harmony Rockets
Paralyzed Mind of the Archangel Void [re-issue]
PS, US Re-issue of Mercury Rev side-project's 1995 debut. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The brain-searing Paralyzed Mind of the Archangel Void is a trip into the furthest reaches of sound, a complete immersion into space noise and melodic chaos. Comprised of a single, 42-minute live performance piece, the Harmony Rockets' guise allows Mercury Rev the opportunity to push their music to its breaking point; instead of the ear-splitting avant freak-out one might have expected, however, the disc seems to exist in slow motion, characterized by ominous waves of sound. Guitars drone, trumpets throb, and Jonathan Donahue's vocals float in and out of the mix like random messages intercepted from another galaxy; the cumulative effect is an amazing distortion of the time-space continuum, a shape-shifting aural world almost alien in its dementia."

Hitchcock, Robin
Shadow Cat
PS, UK Robyn Hitchcock has taken time out from working with The Venus 3 (which features various members of REM) and John Paul Jones (who has been busy with his former band Led Zeppelin lately...) to compile an exclusive album, Shadow Cat, for London's premier oddball label Sartorial Records. This collection of previously unreleased material from the Hitchcock vaults dates from 1993-99, providing the missing link between The Egyptians on A&M and the Warner Bros years. Shadow Cat itself features Moris Tepper, mainstay of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, on lead acoustic guitar, and all tracks are Hitchcock originals, but for the Hendrix cover "The Wind Cries Mary" (on which Sartorial boss Terry Edwards plays Hammond organ). Aside from Edwards making a further appearance on "Never Have To See You Again", Robyn performs all instruments & vocals. From the concise opening cut, For Debbie Reynolds, to the concluding title track, the quality of the songwriting & performance shines through - "out-take" albums are all too often cobbled together from unreleased (unrealizable!) material. Not so here. These 14 tracks were whittled down from around 30 contenders, carefully edited & remastered to create a cohesive album - even to the point of sequencing the songs as two sides, despite it not being manufactured on vinyl. Essential for those who have followed Robyn from his early days in The Soft Boys (with Kimberley Rew, Morris Windsor and Andy Metcalfe) to his work with film director Jonathan Demme and beyond, this release also serves as a fine introduction to the work of one of Englands most treasured songwriters. Enjoy! Track listing SIDE 1: 1 For Debbie Reynolds, 2 Never Have To See You Again, 3 Love Affair, 4 The Wind Cries Mary, 5 High On Yourself, 6 Because You're Over, 7 The Cat Walks Her Kind Of Line. SIDE 2: 8 Statue With A Walkman, 9 The Green Boy, 10 Real Dot, 11 Nothing But Time, 12 Beautiful Shock, 13 Baby-Doll, 14 Shadow Cat.

Instant Orange
S-T
PS, GERMANY Besides home to the Hell's Angels, farmers and citrus grooves, San Bernardino, California was also where Instant Orange lived and released their first single in 1968. Terry Walters, Randy Lanier and Lynn McCurdy are Instant Orange with the help of Joe Bianchi and Bob Lautz. The band forged ahead and released another single (1973), album (1973) and two 10" EPs (1974 and 1975). All of their releases were small pressings of 100 copies and to this day, Instant Orange remains virtually unknown. Their homemade sound is a refreshing reflection of the West Coast folk-rock influences that were so prevalent during the '60s and early '70s. All original tracks with inspiration from bands like The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Love, Sandy Bull and others. Songs full of electric and acoustic guitars with nice doses of McGuinnesque 12-string riffing as well as many unexpected surprises (antiquated electronic effects, rambling rural explorations, long jams, experimental moves, stoner banter and other weirdness between songs, caveman fuzz, etc.). A solid listen with enough original imagination to keep it interesting without the band creating an identity crisis by trying too hard to be something other than themselves. Grab this before it becomes elusive like some of San Bernardino's motorcycle riding inhabitants.

In many ways it's very much Jennifer Gentle's show -- of the three songs on the short release, the two that take up the most time are extended versions of tracks from their first two albums. Martial Canterel records and performs using only vintage analogue synthesizers and sequencers, producing a highly-crafted, complex, and idiosyncratic form of electronic music that is simultaneously romantically melancholic and affirmatively aggressive. May or May Not
Kaledioscope of Egos
PS, US A significant evolution from their first album, skipping around genres like a furious record collector (or digital music pirate, yarr!). Whether it's the psychedelic reminiscing sing-along "Do The Disaster" or the winding, prog-tinged anthem "Lavender Shell" the band's confidence to mine from the past is clear, but all with a fresh outlook for the future. First single "Boots" rides Aaron Brink's atmospheric guitar hooks & the thunderous, double-time drumming of Mike Brunette all the way through the assured singing of Amelia Styer, who shares vocals throughout Kaleidoscope with Maxwell & Reidell.

Megafaun
Bury the Square
PS, US From the vibrant Southern quasi-capital of Durham emerge MEGAFAUN, wearing earnestness across the chest and abstraction along the sleeves. They pour forth dulcet harmonies, as seeking vocals tug banjo lines up the Appalachian mountains; redemptive noise soaks everything, like thick air wafting from the Atlantic. Clawhammer banjo and strummed acoustics lock and roll with electric guitars and electronic textures. They realize that folk implies deep, personal, intense expression, whether the instrument is a parlor piano with the lid thrown back or a distortion pedal with the case cracked loose. In this band, orthodoxy and unorthodoxy flow together as one.

PS, US The Mountain Goats have recorded four fine albums that have established them as a genuine cult phenomenon and confirmed John Darnielle's status as one of the finest lyricists of his generation. "Heretic Pride" is a suite of songs about mythical creatures, imaginary cults, slasher films, and pulp fiction novelists. Here, Darnielle has also come up with some of the most anthemic, impassioned, and downright catchy songs of his career. "It's rare to come across such specific and purposeful prose in modern pop. But, alongside Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and the Decemberists' Colin Meloy, John Darnielle is helping bring fine lyric writing back to life" - NY Daily News.

Neptune
Gong Lake
PS, US Behold: NEPTUNE, the most harrowingly original band on this planet - or the next. Its three members are, in turn, musicians, sculptors, scientists, blacksmiths, electricians, and industrial machinists; relentlessly inventive, possibly sane. Together, they construct all of their instruments, forging guitars and drums out of circular saw blades, gas tanks, oil drums, bike parts, VCR casings, and miscellany from the trash. Electronics, and even cords, are homemade as well. The combined effect is a bizarre, post-apocalyptic mélange of steel, iron, wire, rust, rivet, knob, and cable; it's lunacy, arc-welded for maximum destruction. Concerts are seizures of motion. Wearing 40-pound guitars assembled entirely from scrap metal, the members don't play their instruments - they battle them, like mechanized golems. But make no mistake, this is not simply art with sharp edges and serious customs issues. Neptune rocks. Hard. Recalling the slapdash angularity of The Fall, the rhythmic ack-ack blasts of This Heat, and the sheer proto-clangor of Einstuerzende Neubauten, they count as one of the best experimental rock bands of any era. Their dynamic, expertly wrought songs and skilled improvisations don't start; they explode. "Gong Lake" is the band's first unlimited CD release, and with it the world will discover what fans of their live shows have known for years: Neptune is otherworldly.

Notorious Hi-Fi Killers
Which Side Are You On?
PS, UK Rocket Recordings are proud to announce the release of Which Side Are You On?, the debut album by Southeast London 3-piece The Notorious Hi-Fi Killers. Which Side Are You On? presents the trio's distinctive take on loud, throttling noise rock blended with manic psychedelia, taking the listener on a journey through ferocious 4-track blasts, analog tape space rock and intuitive heavy blues. This is the sound of a primal rock and roll band at their most uncompromising and dirtiest. From the one and a half minute biker-punk anthem of 'Queen O' Fuck' through the fuzzed-up blues of the Freddie King classic 'Going Down' to the 18 minutes of psychedelic bliss of 'Near The Final Destination' which crumbles into a mantra of noise, drones and horns, with the added assistance of Alexander Tucker, Duke Garwood and members of Part Chimp. The Notorious Hi-Fi Killers have been a common sight on the stages in their hometown of London and various dimly-lit warehouses across the country, playing alongside bands like The Heads, Lords, Parts and Labour, Shit & Shine and White Hills.

Park, Patrick
Everyone's in Everyone (Digipak Packaging)
PS, US The previous albums by Colorado-born, Los Angeles-based neo-folkie singer/songwriter Patrick Park have been promising but spotty, but coming nearly four years after 2003's Loneliness Knows My Name, the far more self-assured Everyone's in Everyone is a big step forward. Opening with the immediately engaging solo voice and guitar tune "Life Is a Song," Everyone's in Everyone moves from strength to strength. Highlights include the genuinely great "Here We Are," a propulsive country-rocker in the vintage '70s Laurel Canyon style that features a strong, memorable chorus, and the moodier, mysterious "Saint with a Fever," which mines territory closer to vintage Richard Thompson. There isn't a single duff track on this concise 11-song album, which seems destined to put Park alongside Josh Ritter and Josh Rouse in the top tier of American folk-rock singer/songwriters. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide

Peculiar, Vinny
Goodbye My Angry Friend
PS, UK There are times you can hear Nick Cave and Johnny Cash in these power pop meets kitchen sink drama songs but a better comparison might be Stephen Duffy for the romance-against-the-odds, me-against-the-world, railing-against-the-dying-of-the-light feeling of this record." Manchester song-writing maverick, performance poet and Smiths associate Vinny Peculiar has cultivated an alternative music career spanning the past 10 years collaborating with a diverse range of artists from Bill Drummond to Bonehead. 'Goodbye My Angry Friend', his 7th studio album, is an ambitious, vengeful, tuneful and intriguing collection of songs. Produced by sonic magpie Tim Browne it fuses influences that are, to many a pop music connoisseur, poles apart...from Nick Cave to The Darkness...from Johnny Cash to Queen. Here is a record that, for better or worse, plays by its own rules. The opening salvo reflects upon the death of the Vinny Peculiar alter ego whilst 'Kiss Me [I'm a Social Worker]' reeks of abuse and mistrust. 'Seasonal Affective Disorder' is a tenderly affecting paean of mood disorder and melody. 'Lazy Bohemians' portrays and gently dismembers a world of would be revolutionary misfits...a world in which Vinny stars as idler in chief. From garage band symphonies to rock and roll nursery rhymes here is a record of audacious musicality from an artist not simply content to sit on the edge. Vinny Peculiar is prepared to jump.

Racer, Kris
Has A Banner Year
PS, US As former frontman for Ohio pop-punkers Tagline, Kris Racer came to Chicago & left the rest of the band behind, opting to unplug & become an acoustic, solo act. But staying true to his punkier roots, Kris Racer is more Mike Ness than open mic. Racer's new EP continues to explore the themes of adolescence redux he covered on his debut. It's that time you reach in your mid-20s when you're still not sure what you're exactly supposed to do with your life; it's that stage in the game when you're caught thinking about whether jobs should turn into careers or if girlfriends should become wives.

Shitmat/DJ Scotch Egg (Scotchy & Shitty)
Rave Like A Headless Chicken 12"
PS, UK This 12" is the second in Wrong Music's 'Rave like a..." series which pay homage too the uk rave sound. Volume one featured 4 hardcore classics from Oen_flux and, Planet Mu's, Chevron. This time it's the infamous DJ Scotch Egg and Shitmat's turn to Bring the Hardcore! DJ Scotch Egg opens his side with a DJ Friendly (over 3mins long!) gameboy cover of 'Bonkers' star Hixxy's Happy hardcore Benchmark track 'Toytown'. In fact it's less of a cover when it gets going, feeling like a pumping 8 bit techno party. The ep progresses with another 3 tracks each one with a catchy melody as the next. On the last choon we get a heartfelt emo pop/hh banger, sounding like Bach using a gameboy instead of a piano. This could be Egg's most dancefloor release too date. After the massive success of 2006's 'HANG THE DJ' and 2007's 'GROOVERIDER' albums Shitmat combines both their styles for his side of the vinyl. The first track 'Nuff Respect' merges pounding Remarc_esque jungle beats, ragga vocals and a few cheeky pop samples to make another post jungle classic whilst gabber/hardcore tracks 'Loveheart Trilogy' and 'Happy Ending' take Shitmat's mashed up sense of humour to a euphoric crescendo.

Somatic Responses
Digital Darkness
PS, GERMANY A new sign of life from Wales - John and Paul Healy, well-known as somatic responses produced a new fulltime masterpiece of electronic sound wizardry. Almost two years have passed since Giauzar and it seems the brothers used their time not only for the explorations of new tonal and atonal scapes, they also went for a re-analysis of their roots. The digital darkness described here is a dry, drawn out universe of distorted chromatic basses, straightened heavy beats and swirling filter pulses, establishing ties from the times when the tb-303 took over technoid music up to the nineties where speed increased and rhythms became dodgier. Stylistic classifications were never somatic responses' aim, nevertheless, digital darkness might be rated as one of their most straight-lined works since years - f.e. you never heard S.R. as speedy as they are on the title track or 'reset the world'. Their typical ingredients like unique strings usage are still present ('stranded'), the enrichment with some blasts from the past makes digital darkness a mixture that will kick your eardrums in.

Originally issued on Dandelion, the album is now expanded and remastered with extra tracks. A truly beautiful progressive/space rock album, it mixes the epic quality of Led Zep with a spacey Pink Floyd feel and the mushroom weirdness of The Pink Fairies and Hawkwind. 'Willow' is a masterpiece of UK underground rock and it's easy to see why John Peel signed this band way back in the early '70s."

Corky's Debt To His Father (LP + 7")
PS, US A fast 14 yrs later, it's our pleasure to bring this classic of 2-sided entertainment back to the table (the turntable, that is) w/ a special LIMITED-edition pressing. Wrapped in a jacket that recalls the halcyon days of solid LP dominance, this new pressing comes with a 7'' feat. the instrumental "Woof," which was recorded at the same sessions but not released until The Red Krayola's 2004 compilation CD Singles. The b-side is a neverbefore heard take on John Cage's "4'33''" played by fellow traveller Sergei McUgly.

Throw Me The Statue
Moonbeams
PS, US Making waves throughout the latter half of 2007, we're super pleased to deliver Seattle's THROW ME THE STATUE'S debut album, "Moonbeams". Conceived and fronted by SCOTT REITHERMAN, "Moonbeams", was constructed with the help of CASEY FOUBERT (Sufjan Stevens, Pedro The Lion) to create a wondrous concoction of fuzzed out synths, brass ensembles and epic vocal melodies that have been noticeably absent since In the Aeroplane, Over The Sea first saw the light of day. At the album's core is a sharp sense of melody, a cutting lyrical honesty, and a bludgeoning beat that brings to mind the whimsy of Magnetic Fields, the lyrical expanse of The Microphones, and the lo-fi bliss of Eric's Trip. While the front of the album is nothing short of the next evolution of skewed Northwest bombast with "Lolita," "Yucatan Gold" and "About To Walk", the second half displays an unexpected maturity in young Reitherman. The title track oozes down tempo vulnerability while the closer, "The Happiest Man On This Plane" combines the best of Reitherman's predecessors Phil Elverum and Dave Bazan.

Tiger Lou
The Loyal
PS, US Domestic release for Tiger Lou's latest. A Spring 2008 tour is in the works as well! Meet Rasmus Kellerman. This is the guy behind Tiger Lou. It's a band; for all intents and purposes, he's the band. He writes the songs, plays and produces them. For now. Kellerman will tell you not to look too close at "just an indie band, like many other indie bands, with a big heart." But not listening closely to Tiger Lou would be to sell it short.
The Loyal, the band's second album, is on the surface, just music. A bunch of songs written by some guy from Oxelösund, Sweden. Only these tunes breathe, they're dynamic, alive. Straight from the heart of some guy now living in Stockholm. And he wouldn't say the band had heart if, to some extent, he wanted you to know the music was sincere. Thirteen atmospheric, incorporeal (but alive) tracks that, if you put them under a microscope, would reveal a molecular pattern (and movement) identical to Kellerman's. Maybe that's why he'd like you to look plainly upon his work: he's already seen himself at such a high magnification, a potentially painful zoom into who and what he is, and where he came from.

Soiree Du Coeur A Barbe: Festival Paris Dada
PS, UK A groundbreaking anthology of piano music directly linked to the Dada avant-garde art movement in Paris between 1920 and 1923. Soirée du Coeur à Barbe: Festival Dada Paris is based on the piano repertoire performed at two landmark Dada events in Paris, namely the Festival Dada on 26 May 1920, and the infamous Soirée du Coeur à Barbe on 6 July 1923, an event disrupted by violent confrontation between Tristan Tzara's Dada faction and Surrealists lead by Andre Breton. Music from the 1920 event includes two pieces by Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes as well as The American Nurse by Francis Picabia, the latter described as 'three notes repeated to infinity'. Pieces performed at the riotous 1923 soirée include two fox-trots by Georges Auric and Darius Milhaud (both members of the celebrated group Les Six), the four-hand Trois Morceaux en forme de poire by Erik Satie (performed in person by the composer on the night), and Three Easy Pieces by Igor Stravinsky. The CD also includes other pieces such as Satie's bizarre playlet Le Piège de Méduse (premiered in Paris in May 1921), Drie composities voor Klavier by the Belgian-born Dada/Surrealist E.L.T. Mesens, and a piano rendering of Marcel Duchamp's short vocal Musical Erratum of 1913. The CD closes with an historic archive Stravinsky recording from 1925 by Marcelle Meyer, the pianist who performed at both Dada events in 1920 and 1923. Always described in detail in texts on the history of Dada and Surrealism, the music performed at these events is rarely heard, and remarkably this CD marks the first ever recordings of these compositions by Ribemont-Dessaignes, Picabia and Mesens. All were researched and performed for the project by virtuoso Dutch pianist Peter Beijersbergen van Henegouwen. The booklet includes detailed liner notes by James Hayward, as well as archive images.

Wild Swans
Bringing Home the Ashes [re-issue]
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Songs about war and religious faith were not exclusive to U2 in the '80s. Liverpool, England's the Wild Swans ventured into U2 territory on their 1988 debut album, Bringing Home the Ashes, while sustaining their distinctive sound. The haunting voice of Paul Simpson injects every track with emotional weight; whether he is trying to convey joy or sorrow, his icy baritone chills to the bone. His vocals combine Scott Walker's lonely croon with the brooding angst of Ian McNabb from fellow Liverpudlians the Icicle Works... As enthralling as U2 were in the '80s, they never sounded as gorgeous as the Wild Swans do on Bringing Home the Ashes... Simpson's sparkling voice and Kelly's ethereal guitars provide the album with an undeniably romantic feel. Every track is suffused with radiant pop hooks."

Beequeen
Sandancing (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US After the by now usual gap of some two years, Beequeen is ready to present their latest album, further maturing their sound from 'The Bodyshop' (also on Important Records). More song based, this album features new vocals by Olga Wallis solely (with some backing by Freek Kinkelaar). Well-rounded popsongs in some places, but Beequeen never forgets to put in some strange element, without leaping in the dark alley of pointless experiment. Orchestral in 'The Illogical Song', collage like in 'The Edie Three Step' or a simple rhythm machine in 'The Honeythief'. Beequeen does all, and with great care and seemingly ease. This album features also the help of Barry Gray, former (and first) guitarist of The Legendary Pink Dots, and would not have been the album that is without the invaluable production skills of Erik Drost.

Bitcrush
Epilogue in Waves (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US '"Epilogue in Waves" is the third album from n5MD main-man Mike Cadoo's ever evolving Bitcrush moniker. The album is the soundtrack to a story which begins with a sense of hope, but whose undercurrents pull you to the end you feared. Epilogue in Waves marks the end of Cadoo's "wading in the ocean" thematic metaphor for lost time that constituted the backbone of his previous album, "In Distance." As his self-described "rock record," the album eschews some of Cadoo's previous electronic methodologies for a more stripped-down songwriting style which utilizes only guitars, basses and drums. This experiment in the basics has led to a sonically rich release that still contains those warm musical crevices to find solace in. Epilogue in Waves will please fans of previous works by Bitcrush as well as neophytes to Cadoo's brand of emotional and sometimes epic songwriting.

Borko
Celebrating Life (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 1ST)
PS, GERMANY Celebrating Life is the first full-length release from Icelandic artist Björn Kristiansson and reflects a life in music full of experiences. The oldest of these eight tracks are up to six years old, and Morr label-head Thomas Morr has been their eager and attentive listener. How does a punch in the belly sound? Kristiansson has written a song about it called "Spoonstabber," where you'll hear an elegiac Tetris, encapsulated by delaying beats, tumbling samples, guitars, trumpets and a melody that goes on for an eternity. Borko - who also works as a musician for film and theater as well as a music teacher at a primary school in Reykjavik - expresses melancholy and nostalgia through rhythm-machines. His songs can reach dramatic heights with climbing melodies, as well as play up the stoicism of repetition and modulation. His work at the laptop and mixing desk live on stage have helped fuel his inspiration as well as childhood prog rock LPs, Jim O'Rourke's ear and electronica's warmth.

Boy Omega
Hope On The Horizon (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SPAIN On "Hope on the Horizon", Boy Omega (Swedish genius Martin Henrik Gustafsson) follows up his critically acclaimed 2006-albums "The Black Tango" and "The Grey Rainbow", with yet another impressive collection of songs that showcase the growth of his songwriting. As always when you hear a new Boy Omega-record, there's something new going on. This time it's a lot less electronic than before. This is something warm and analog, featuring big walls of strings, horns, acoustic pianos etc. It sounds melancholic and drenched with the bitter beauty of life. Besides from recording "Hope...", releasing two albums, a tour-cd (feat. 15 rare tracks and covers), two singles, the split CD "If we were oceans" and appearing on the Magnetic Fields tribute CD "Our love is meaningless", Boy Omega also managed to play more than 60 shows in 2006. Germany, Austria, The Netherlands and the UK were frequently visited. In the summer they played the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, The End of the road festival in the UK along with artists such as Ryan Adams, Ed Harcourt and Badly Drawn Boy. They also did shows together with Isobel Campbell, Akron/Family, The Hidden Cameras and Jason Collett. "Fans of Sufjan Stevens and Elliott Smith will feel a kinship to these allusive tunes ... A fascinating series of snapshots, both disarming and engaging ... something incredibly fragile and perfectly crafted." - UNCUT "Sad songs and little-boy-lost vocals recall Bright Eyes, but his settings are all his own, mixing lo-fi sensibilities with gnarly electronics, warm cellos, lustrous violins, banjo and sax to lush effect ... Cash, Brent
How Will I Know If I'm Awake (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4TH)
PS, GERMANY The Marina label presents the debut release from Athens, GA-based Brent Cash. Sounding like a lost sunshine pop classic from the '60s, How Will I Know If I'm Awake is overflowing with hook-laden choruses, multi-layered vocal harmonies and lush, sophisticated arrangements. It's the sound of endless summers and good vibrations. From the start, multi-instrumentalist Cash decided to record his songs like "they did it back then," hiring the best musicians in town and assembling a mini-orchestra featuring strings, brass and even a harp. The results are simply stunning. From the opening chords of "Everything That's Grey," we enter melody wonderland, a place where major 7 chords rule and beautiful vocal harmonies dazzle your mind. "Digging The Fault Line" is full of Byrds guitar jangle, sounding like the perfect soundtrack to cruise into golden California sunsets (with a great Wes Montgomery-like guitar solo along the way). "Only Time" explodes with 100 % fat-free youthful euphoria -- Roger Nichols meets The 5th Dimension. While deeply rooted in '60s songwriting -- influenced by Bacharach, Wilson, McCartney, and yes, The Monkees -- Cash certainly has his own unique signature style. Just listen to "And Had We Ever?" and "I Think I'm Falling In Love" -- with its complex, enchanting textures, ignoring conventional song structures. "Love Is Burning Down Tonight" -- a striking duet between Brent and Amanda Kapousouz -- is a special highlight of the album, while "Good Morning Sunshine" could be the theme song to the best TV series in the world -- the harpsichord-driven piece is chock-full of amazing twists and turns of melodic beauty. "This Sea, These Waves" moves us into bossa nova territory -- starting off in a classic Getz/Gilberto mould, the song soon morphs into heavenly orchestrated Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 elegance. "More Than Everything," clocking in at over six minutes, ends this beautiful song circle with a great final statement about overcoming heartbreak, delivered with the sincerity of a Carpenters record. Music made the way it was meant to be heard.

Club 8
Spring Came, Rain Fell + 5 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. Labrador is proud to announce the third of four CD album re-issues by Sweden's kings & queens of happysad indie pop. Club 8s third album "Spring came, rain fell" is released with original artwork and five (5) bonus tracks. "Spring came, rain fell" was the start of a whole new era for Club 8. They had just bought their own recording equipment and started the now famous Summersound Studio together with fellow band Acid House Kings and from this a whole new level of creativity emerged. You can tell Club 8 enjoyed their newly found freedom with a studio of thier own. "Spring came, rain fell" is sparkling of experimental lust. Without ever losing their touch for seductive pop melodies Club 8 here produces songs and sounds ranging from dub and electronica to smokey trip hop and folky and acoustic pop. They did everything just because they could do it and because they loved doing. "Club 8 use the studio to bring the best out in every song ... shafts of melodica shine a light through Komstedt's dewy fatalism. It may be bleak, but you can't stop returning." - MOJO "As summer slips away, wallow in some Scandinavian sadness with this Swedish duo's wonderfully soothing (UK) début." - TIME OUT (London)

Strangely Beautiful + 5 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. Labrador is proud to present the fourth of four CD album re-issues by one of Sweden's most influential indie pop bands. Club 8s fifth album "Strangely beautiful" is released with original artwork and nothing less than five (5) bonus tracks. "Strangely beautiful" was the last of three albums in Club 8's productive peak between 2001 and 2003. Within a time frame of less than two years the band managed to release three full-length albums and two Eps without ever losing on quality. Quite the opposite, "Strangely beautiful" was by many considered their best album to date. "Strangely Beautiful is Club 8's best and most varied record to date...on this album, the band's trademark blend of soft indie pop guitars, perky dance beats, melancholy synthesizers, and sweet and innocent vocals remains intact, but Johan Angergard, the chief architect of Club 8's sound, seems to have spent some effort trying to expand their sound a little. The work pays off handsomely and the album sounds full of life and energy." ALL MUSIC Their previous album "Spring came, rain fell" had been a very diverse history ranging from electronica and dub to acoustic pop. Therefor it came natural for Club 8 to move in the opposite direction on their next album and make a more homogeneous album. "Strangely beautiful" mostly revolved around guitar based and melancholic pop music. But there was, as always, tracks that stood out as completely different from the rest. And in typical Club 8 manner this track, "Saturday night engine", was chosen to be the single. This noisy and Northern Soul-inspired track was a clear forerunner to The Legends "Up against the Legends". But that's another story.

The Friend I Once Had + 6 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. With a glittery mix of jangly guitars, bossa nova and sophisticated, melancholic pop melodies, "The Friend I Once Had" was a big step forwards for Club 8. Their debut album "Nouvelle" may be regarded, as a twee pop classic by some but the band would happily rather bury most the songs under a rock. This is the album they wish was their debut. "All bubble-pop, break beats, and xylophones, Friend I Once Had was a step forward from the fey gestures Club 8 had once been known for." ALL MUSIC GUIDE "...showcases lusher, bouncier songs suitable for both easy listening and sophisticated grooving .... music that you will immediately cherish..." CMJ "It is absolutely essential to own at least one Lp by this group. I'd probably suggest this one as the place to start, but you really can't go wrong." 10 + INDIESPINZONE "The friend I once had" was not only a first step towards the band's characteristically elegant, yet melancholic, "Club 8 - sound"; it was a step towards a much bigger (and possibly wider) audience. The album gained critical success and reached thousands of new listeners in the US, Europe and Japan and they even had a minor hit with the single "Missing you". Ironically, this is the only song from the album parts of the band can no longer stand. "The Friend I Once Had" celebrates 10 years and remains a minor Swedish pop classic. A must have for just about anyone genuinely interested in quality POP.

Club 8
Club 8 + 2 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. Labrador is proud to present the second of four CD album re-issues by Sweden's melancholic pop heroes. Club 8s self-titled third is released with original artwork and two (2) bonus tracks. It took three years from the previous album "The friend I once had" to the release of "Club 8" and listening to the albums after one and another it's obvious how much they'd changed in absence. This album definitely moved the band in a new direction. And you can tell directly from the first song on "Club 8". "Love in december" is breathtaking, soulful pop imbued by dark Scandinavian winter atmosphere and bittersweet melancholy. "If a lover's arms were as soft and sultry as the music on Club 8, returning to them again and again would pose little conflict, and the same goes for slipping into Club 8." ROLLING STONE

Coniglio, Enrico
'dyanMU (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4TH)
PS, IRELAND Dark Ambient/Piano works. Enrico Coniglio presents his second album on Irish label Psychonavigation Records. A slight change of style from the Italian producers critically acclaimed previous work 'Areavirus Topofonie Volume 1'. This time around in between Coniglio's abstract ambient soundscapes were greeted by short piano pieces from the talented musician Elisa Marzorati. A delicate and minimal contemporary Ambient work partly based on the piano preludes of Claude Debussy. The album also boasts a sample from the legendary producer Robert Fripp. The guitarist kindly granted Enrico the right to use a sample from his 'The Gates Of Paradise' album.

Corsano, Chris
The Young Cricketer (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4th)
PS, US "The Young Cricketer" is CHRIS CORSANO'S debut of Frankenstein/gamelan skin detail. It's a monster and a babe all wrapped under the guise of "The Solo Drum Album". Corsano's flea-market kit of cast-iron pot lids, super-bouncy-balls on sticks, butter knives, and even a sax mouthpiece jammed-in-a-hose conjures a part rhythmic maelstrom, like a Milford Graves drip painting, and the sweet metallic ice drones of Tony Conrad and Keiji Haino rubbing sticks together until end days. Globally known for a dozen scorched/power jazz sessions with sax blower Paul Flaherty and a cadre of collaborators and groups (Jandek, Bjork, Jim O'Rourke, Dream/Aktion Unit, Vampire Belt, Michael Flower, Dredd Foole, etc.), Corsano's drumming has leapt from post-hardcore explorations into outrageous, primeval and outright futuristic depth during his past 10 years of recorded documentation. This LP is a field recording of wire, skin, metal and soul -- not tunes for yr neighbor's bongo party. Originally issued on Corsano's own Hot Cars Warp label as a CDR, this LP IS REMASTERED AND ISSUED IN A 600 EDITION.

Country Funk
S-T [re-issue] (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4TH)
PS, UK Few artist names or album titles have ever been so misleading as this band's. Though there are certainly elements of funk and country in the mix, their beautifully crafted songs and harmonies (to say nothing of some biting electric guitar) are far closer in feel to the West Coast psychedelia of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Originally released in 1970 on Polydor, the album is a long-lost gem that is sure to please fans of U.S. West Coast rock -- it certainly appealed to Beck, who sampled one of its tracks on his Odelay album.

Crow Tongue
Ghost Eye Seeker (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 25TH)
PS, US Crow Tongue's first full length finds them summoning distant howls from the fog of night. Fingerpicked strings & Eastern
instruments recall CT's musical heritage (the acid-folk of Stone Breath), but here they are layered with primitive homemade instruments, circuit-bent electronics & mantric drones. "Ghost Eye Gaze" opens the album with a 5-part drone-raga, improvised to back a shamanic chant, pushing from free-folk to free-noise & back again. "Seeker" follows in 2 parts with bass dulcimer & tablas leading into an electric swarmandal excursion. The album closes with "Candle, Corpse, and Bell" where Crow Tongue shows their dub influence with guimbri & tabla-machine slowly spinning through the echochamber.

DeVotchKa
Mad and Faithful Telling (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, US The times have finally caught up with acclaimed Denver quartet DeVotchKa. Not long ago when the band unloaded their instruments - a violin, a tuba and an accordion, among others - into a rock club, they were told they must be in the wrong place. They created music that was Grammy nominated (DeVotchKa created the soundtrack for the indie smash Oscar winning film Little Miss Sunshine) without the benefit of a huge promotion team or runaway budget, instead relying only on their own efforts by self-releasing their records. And they crafted gems of songs by mixing a beautiful blend of Eastern European bohemia, American prairie rock and distinctive indie and called it pop, rather than world, music. Now, the band is au courant, poised to shine on with their Anti- Records debut A Mad and Faithful Telling. From the cinematic richness of "Transliterator" to the modern pop experiment of "The Clockwise Witness," to the soaring and wrenching "Undone," DeVotchKa have produced a career-defining record and the world is listening. THE ONION: "DeVotchkA gets pegged with all kinds of farfetched descriptions - but despite all their trappings, which include admittedly exotic elements, Nick Urata and company concoct impeccable pop songs, the kind that fuse memory and memorability with swaying darkness and glittering soul."

Tomavistas: (Selected Rarities 2002-2007) (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US Daniel Romero is a multi-faceted musician based in Asturias, north of Spain. In a very short time he has molded a very personal discourse based on constructing low-budget electronic pop with lo-fi, toy instruments, combined with stunning homemade visuals. "Tomavistas" is something like an old video camera - literally taking in and recording the landscapes of contemplative, visual sound. It is a collection of Daniel Romero's rarities and personal favorites recorded as dot tape dot, spanning the years 2002 - 2007. "Tomavistas" is born of love of the domestic flavor of the "underground" and the pleasure derived spending time making music for this scene. Considering the difficulty for listeners to find these tracks, it became time to compile them along with other, little known pieces and clears out space for a new personal stockpile to be built. These 12 tracks are taken from limited edition compilations, vinyl only releases and "unofficial" albums, from labels in France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Mexico, UK and Canada. This collection is intended to serve as a retrospective for fans, highlighting different musical stages, or a perfect introduction for new listeners, revealing a background upon which to consider future output. 1. Day For Night (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN The Dreamers are an Anglo/Swedish duo featuring Sarah Nyberg Pergament (Action Biker) and Kevin Wright (Always and Mr. Wright, on él, Le Grand Magistery and Siesta). After meeting at a Swedish music festival in 2004, the pair began making music together via London, Stockholm and Helsinki, and fusing jazz pop, bossanova, and soundtrack music. With "Day for Night" the Dreamers have made--to paraphrase Michel Legrand on Tom Jobim- the sad music that makes the world a better place. Influences: Stan Tracey, Caetano Veloso, Colleen, Francoise Hardy, Kryzystof Komeda, Matching Mole, Anna Karina, Bill Evans, Monica Zetterlund, Nara Leao, Bernard Herrmann, Nico... "[A] male/female duo with the vocal texture and cadence of Broadcast's Trish Keenan, but with its own musicality, personality and atmosphere set in a breeze-blown, sun-drenched pasture, the record is really charming and full of self-assured confidence - light on its feet in that Brazilian way and positive in that modern indie way, but solid and thoughtfully written. The Dreamers are very easy to like but definitely not just another guilty pleasure." - Other Music, NYC

Enduser
Left (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US END.USER is one of the cornerstones of the modern eclectic electronic music. Support from BBC Radio's Mary Anne Hobbs and a list of DJs too long to fit on a one sheet, from many different genres, and releases across many platforms have built him into a juggernaut. A usually prolific artist, having recorded for Hymen, Ad Noiseam, Sublight, Cargo, and many others, he took 2007 off, working on something very special - his debut album on Ohm Resistance. Having relocated to San Francisco, a new lease on his creative power is demonstrated adroitly over the entire album. Album: left shows the most range of END.USER's album making career. Intensely personal, intensely musical, and just plain INTENSE at points, the album showcases a spectacular array of skills across the board. From radio play material ("black light") with Aussie vocalist Sol Thomas, to collaborations with and remixes by influential electronic acts SCORN and COUNTERSTRIKE, to absolutely stunning, no boundaries drum n bass, the album is diverse and full of powerful compositions. Compelling from start to finish, left is the culmination of more than a year's work. Label: Ohm Resistance is Brooklyn's premier experimental electronic label. Loaded with power, from Scorn, to Bill Laswell's Method of Defiance, to Enduser and Submerged, the label has transformed from drum n bass 12" powerhouse to cutting edge electronic project pioneer.

English, Lawrence/Ai Yamamoto
Plateau (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US Over the past three years Ai Yamamoto and Lawrence English have been exploring the ideas and linkages between field recordings, texture and minimal electronics. Occasionally crossing paths around Australia and sharing the odd live performance together, the duo realized they shared a strong interest in the character of sound and the creation of sonic works that carry a strong sense of suggested narrative and memory (both invented and real). On Plateau, they create evocative and generously textured passages of sound that mask gentle field recordings collected across the globe including Yamamoto's home prefecture of Nara, Japan where English also spent time. Considered In worldwide as the "Bible" of modern, cutting edge and new music and in publication now for over 20 years is the U.K. monthly magazine, The Wire, here is what they had to say upon review of "Plateau" in the February 2006 edition: A man of many collaborations, Lawrence English joins fellow Australian sound artist Ai Yamamoto for Plateau, a somber album of impressionist fragments connected more by mood and ambience than by movement and composition. As in his previous work with Tujiko Noriko DJ Olive and Philip Samartzis, English applies a considerable amount of DSP-distilled polish to the ensuing sounds, whether they are textured field recordings, rasping tam-tams or post-Eno dronescapes. Considering that Plateau jumps from tonefloat shimmer to wintry Durutti Column guitar flourishes to a music box palindrome and back to a bout of ominous minimalism, English's production serves to encase the entire album with a consistent aura. Plateau's numerous stylistic transitions and melodic interludes never veer far from a compelling if fragile melancholy.

Fine Arts Showcase, The
Sings Rough Bunnies (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN RESTOCKING THIS TITLE BY LATE-JAN, EARLY-FEB! Third album from Gustaf Kjellvander's Fine Arts Showcase, and the follow-up to his 110% brilliant. The short version: TFAS covers 11 song by Swedish cult-twee-punk-lofi duo The Rough Bunnies. The bonus, on top of it all, twist to the album is that it is mastered by the legendary Mr Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub!

The long version: This is an album of many stories. Gustaf Kjellvander and his friends in The Fine Arts Showcase have made a covers album, entirely based on songs from the Swedish, rather unknown, jangly, lo-fi band Rough Bunnies. Why is that? Let's make Gustaf himself explain: "I was first introduced to Anna Vermina and her cousin Frida, the founding members of Rough Bunnies and Inside Riot, through mutual friends. Frida gave me a CD-R just days before they were about to move to Berlin. About six months later I was looking for someone to rent my spare room. I bumped into Frida by chance, who told me she had moved back from Berlin to Malmö and needed a place to stay - so she moved in. I was already smitten by Inside Riot at this time, and when Frida played me the songs they had recorded in Berlin, along with the Rough Bunnies record C-sides, it blew me away. I played it to everyone who came over to my house. They became an obsession that carries on to this day. I knew I wanted the Fine Arts Showcase to cover their songs. The problem was that with a catalogue of songs as amazing as theirs it was hard to pick just one, so I came up with the idea that we should do an entire record instead (in the Merle Haggard sings Jimmy Rodgers tradition). And here it is: a musical love letter to two of my favorite songwriters, a celebration of the pop geniuses of the Vermina family. Rough Bunnies (and their twin group Inside Riot) have inspired me more than any other band this side of the millennium and this record is my way of thanking them. Rough Bunnies Saved My Life" -Gustaf Kjellvander

WIRELESS BOLLINGER REVIEW: "But the hook that makes this album fun isn't just the fact that most of the tales told in each song are full of girly sweetness. Rather it's the Fine Arts Showcase sound itself - and in particular, Kjellvander's sensationally produced voice, mixing with the aforementioned feminie splendour of Rough Bunnies' original words, that make it work so well. Instead of coming across as simply a cute, slightly cheeky female pop record, what we've got here is an album by a man who's lovingly singing through diary entries, discovering her fascinations, disappointments, sexuality, crushes - the works. This grown male's perspective on adolescent female territory delivers a fresh-sounding positive romanticism to Sings Rough Bunnies; and it's bloody infectious."

Judys, The
Washarama [re-issue] (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 2008)
PS, US The original 'Washarama' album finally re-issued on CD for the first time! With six bonus tracks from "The Wonderful World of Applainces" EP. The Judy's first full-length and most popular recording, Washarama was a watershed event in the Texas new wave scene and solidified the band's status as the state's most original and daring musical provocateurs. The album perfectly captures the band's quirky sensibility and their signature minimalist sound. The twelve-song, 35-minute album includes some of The Judy's most popular songs including "Her Wave", "Man on a Window Ledge", and the legendary "Guyana Punch". This was the first time that the band had spent an extensive (for them) amount of time on a recording project including a total remix of the album after its initial completion. The album was officially released in 1981 at a record release party at Houston's Agora Ballroom and literally became a top seller overnight. Sales were later bolstered by Wasted Talent securing distribution from a major regional distributor. Despite it's age, Washarama still holds its own as the classic Texas new wave album.

Judys, The
Moo [re-issue] (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 2008)
PS, US The original 'Moo' album finally re-issued on CD for the first time! CD sports seven bonus tracks, mainman David Bean's "Modomusic" EP. Released almost four years to the day after Washarama and following an eighteen month hiatus, The Judy's Moo album has a slightly more progressive sound: richer production values, fuller arrangements and thicker harmonies. As the band returned to the stage in 1985, this was the album that showed the band's maturity and development as songwriters and musicians. The twelve songs on Moo, laced with solid-state irony, well-placed cynicism and standard issue Judys' wit, show the band at the peak of their creativity and acted as a springboard for their live extravaganzas. The album was released with The Moo Tour - a month of live performances across the state which included giant cereal boxes, moving conveyer belts of milk cartons, and a dancing cow while the band donned milkman uniforms. Critically acclaimed and fan-revered, The Moo Album continues to be a milestone in Texas pop music.

Judys, The
Land Of Plenty [re-issue] (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 2008)
PS, US First ever official release for The Judys last album, recorded but never released! In 1990, The Judy's set out to record a new album with a new Judy's sound. Featuring the lineup that had been established over a number of years the band, including Barbara Donaho (keyboards/guitars), Lee Malone (bass), and Darwin Keys (drums), set out to explore new horizons musically and thematically. Land of Plenty injected multi-layered keyboards and guitars, stacked vocals, a gospel choir, and even a bit of banjo into the band's palatte and sought to realize Bean's vision of a new Americana musical landscape. Broad in its scope and daring in its expansion of the band's definition of itself, Land of Plenty was shelved when the group disbanded before the CD's release. While a handful of copies have been given out, this is first time this long sought-after project has been available to the general public.

PS, US A Dutch power trio who specialize in extended improvisation at extreme volume. PS, US LADYHAWK'S kiss-of-death evokes the devilish sounds of "Goats Head Soup" guitars, the honey-slides and howling of Neil Young in his darkest hours, and the phantoms that haunted Roky Erickson at the Holiday Inn. Recorded over a period of two weeks in an abandoned farmhouse behind the shopping mall in the band's childhood hometown of Kelowna, British Columbia, "Shots" is an album filled with the cold creaking and ghostly echoes of the old house in the dead of winter. Malkmus, Stephen & The Jicks
Real Emotional Trash (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4TH)
PS, US His first record in three years. Malkmus' genius is that he knows exactly when to fetter. These songs may sprawl like the Central Valley (told you), they may spread out like a jet's flame, but when they reach that last tract house they gracefully spread their wings and head for the unclaimed land beyond. Indeed, although Malkmus makes the Pacific Northwest his home, this feels like a "California" album. Check out how "Real Emotional Trash" begins as a modern-day "Tonight's the Night," before evolving into a road trip from the Mexican border to Marin, in the tradition of Pavement's "Unfair." And dig those Allman Bros. leads (really!).

Body Melt (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US Body Melt is limited to 500 copies only on LP. This is the companion release to the Glass Forest CD being released on Important simultaneously. Both releases are housed in staggeringly unique artwork by Emily. Recorded in the Summer of 2007. Body Melt is a molting and simmering display of furious Hammond Organs & Native American Drums. Daniel Menche manages to merge together the powerfully fuzzed out organ drones along with hypnotically crushing and frenzied drums in a manor that is distinctly the graceful music style of Daniel Menche. Call it trance music for carnivores or ambient music for cannibals. Body Melt sits perfectly thronged on this limited vinyl LP release.

Menche, Daniel
Glass Forest (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US Glass Forest is a highly listenable starting point for any newcomers curious about Daniel Menche's vast discography. It is also, according to Menche, the last cd he will release. From now on he'll be releasing his music on LP only or on DVD to accompany films he's been working on. Glass Forest is also the companion release to Body Melt which is being released simultaneously on Important on LP only. Recorded in the winter of 2005, Daniel Menches Glass Forest displays a glistening sound world that finely textured with the most delicate of raw organic sound and chaotic electronic noise. Not at all extreme as with Menches previous work but rather a more subtle presence can be heard here on Glass Forest. Subsonic bass drums crawling underneath a massive sheets of glass-like sound layering infinitely into a thick and dense forest of delicate noise. For fans of Daniel Menche's ambient work and also his loud violent work, Glass Forest fits exactly right in the middle of these two polarities.

Queen's Headache (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US Miss Massive Snowflake is Shane de Leon, who has been extremely active in a multitude of media throughout America and Europe for over 15 years. He has recorded with SOLEX, OVO and RONIN and collaborated with the BLACK HEART PROCESSION. The music is lush and orchestrated with an abundance of horns, percussion and electronics featuring two vocalists who are under ten. The feel is somewhere between an atheistic Danielson, and anarchistic Prince and a less technical Zappa. MMS will be touring in Europe this spring.

Numbers
Tomlab Alphabet Series - W - (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4th)
PS, US NUMBERS emerges from the dusk of last year's full-length, "Now You Are This", with a pair of rollicking jams that refuse to let the summer set from our hearts and minds. "Is That Really True?" takes on the heavy question of real knowledge with a fuzz bass and drone organ before turning to an irresistible hum-along chorus. And prevailing question remains: "What can we know?" On the þip, the TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS classic "Crimson and Clover" experiences a fuzz rock reawakening shot through by pointedly triumphant guitars and dirty synth. All builds to an end with a brilliant reenactment of the tremolo chant "Crimson and Clover - over and over..." Summer may go, but it won't be gone forever. "Now Now You Are This' fuzzy guitar riffs and distorted synth melodies aren't just burning and propulsive, they're also strangely emotive. We like strangely emotive." - XLR8R

Orwell
Le Génie Humain (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, FRANCE A feast of an album from Jérôme Didelot aka Orwell. Pop par excellence, "Le génie humain" is packed with orchestral maneuvers, soaring synths, and silky, buzzy goodness that bring Eggstone, Louis Philippe and the space bossa moments of Testbild! to mind. With influences running from the early 60s through the early 80s, Jerome's songs have a folk-like delicacy, but sail on intricate arrangements featuring strings, voices, woodwinds and keyboards galore. "Le genie humain" features collaborations with Médéric Gontier (Tahiti 80), Alexander von Mehren, JP Nataf, Ruth Minnikin (Heavy Blinkers), Miss Aprilia Sari (White Shoes and the Couples Company) and Julien Lonchamp (Jack and the'), among others. Recommended for fans of all of the above, plus Julien Ribot, Fugu and High Llamas.

Our Sleepless Forest
S-T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, UK Absolutely stunning debut album of ambient electronic space rock from a frighteningly young three-piece from South London - their first full release, having had an early version of album track 'The Tinderbox' included on the Type Records 'Free The Future' compilation. Having met at school, Sam Purcell, Josh Rothberger and Karl Jawara started experimenting with various musical instruments and sounds using software and basic recording equipment, inspired by the music they were into and with the aim of creating their own wall of sound. After 14 months they emerged with something they were sufficiently happy with to allow it to be heard by others, and ultimately that brings us to the present day - an eight-track, 45-minute debut. Our Sleepless Forest's music is multi-layered, complex and dense, yet dedication and attention are rewarded as the intricate slow-build melodies are revealed beneath the feedback, crackle and hiss. Reminiscent at times of the likes of Loscil or even Radiohead's more out-there moments but on the whole avoiding the predictable comparisons associated with music of this genre, this is an album that simply has to be heard. Press to follow; opening track 'Nomads' was played by Mary Anne Hobbs a couple of months back, and influential Manchester-based website Angry Ape have lined up an interview with the band. TRACKLISTING: 1. Nomads 2. The Tinderbox 3. Doors In Limbo 4. White Bird 5. Aircastles 6. Afraid of You 7. The Clarion 8. Haze.

Can You Take More? (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN Printer is a band that knows how to write heart aching pop songs but tired of staring down un empty glass they rise their arms and dance trough there sorrows. On recent works the band has taken a more dirty and danceable; say techno, approach, although still maintaining the emotional and intellectual focus. It's music to be moved by whether it'll be on the dance floor or in your sofa. It's electronic pop music at its best. And it's got power and depth. Add to that an interest for design and a live show of drinking-beer-energy and you'll get the perfect soundtrack for long volatile night.

Skyphone
Avellaneda (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, NORWAY This is the second full-length release by Danish trio Skyphone for the Rune Grammofon label. Having played in various rock outfits during most of the '90s, childhood friends Keld Dam Schmidt, Thomas Holst and Mads Bødker slowly moved towards the electronica scene and the German dub scene before starting Skyphone in 1999. Since then, they have steadily developed their own style, combining traditional rock instruments with electronics; scratching and carefully damaging the surface of the digital sounds, creating melodic pop songs without singing, leaving it to the listener to infer what the songs actually could have been and what is lurking virtually beneath the constrained, deliberately ambiguous surface of the song. With Avellaneda, they have further developed these ideas into a seamless blend of acoustic and electronic elements, rich in detail and sonic refinement, with the occasional touch of Scandinavian folk music providing a strong melodic base.

subtractiveLAD
Apparatus (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, US 'Apparatus,' SubtractiveLAD's fourth album, finds Stephen Hummel elaborating upon previous granular motifs. Those familiar with his progression will notice that Hummel's sound has matured and become grounded in an honest and open place. As such musical growth would imply, Apparatus is the album in which Hummel appears to be most comfortable with his ideas and usage of sound. It is this comfort, which allows Apparatus to envelop the listener in a profoundly personal way. Lofty classic ambient refrains, shoegaze splendor and muted broken beat trickery are all stylistic fair game. Comparisons can be made to a wide rage of artists such as Ben Frost, Eno, Namlook, and even label mate Bitcrush. As each SubtractieLAD album seems to top the previous, the anticipation is building for what is to come from this bright talent in electronic music.

Tammar
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 4th)
PS, US Working out the kernels of their corn-fried haze, TAMMAR is an exercise in balancing minimalist riffs with maximalist peaks & valleys. While the usual rise-fall theory of rock is tired, with Tammar there's a focus on the jam rather then cold hard numbers. On stage they are always a bit different - moments are stretched and condensed at will, and on record its no different. Minimal keyboards and drums bring to mind early Suicide while tripping guitars and theatrical accented vocals bring to mind the more paisley moments of Felt and U2, respectively. This four-piece from just north of Louisville, KY recorded these songs primarily live off the cement floor of the basement of Grotto Home Studios by the deft hands of Daniel Burton. Bending the materials of the world until the band itself is a conduit for feelings hot and wet and primal as sex. But that's not all. Tammar tastes the psychedelic aether, visiting the realms above as well as below, transmitting those good vibrations. Turn down the lights, turn up your stereo and rock these five hits of ecstasy.

Testbild!
Une Teinte Intense (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 26TH)
PS, SWEDEN "Une teinte intense" is a tribute to one of Testbild!'s greatest heroes: Isabelle Eberhardt, an explorer and writer who traveled the Sahara disguised as a man before dying in a flash flood in 1904 at the age of 27. Excerpts from her travel diaries float in a dreamy sound environment of Bedouin drums, echoing muezzin calls, and warm winds blowing in the distance, while pop melodies flow like spring water in the irrigation canals. Light as a mirage, this album bridges pop, jazz and exotica in the sun-bleached deserts of North Africa. Testbild! welcome the following influences into their Moorish tent: Louis Philippe, Gil Evans, Ludus, Edward Gorey, Eric Satie, the Hepburns, Jacques Cousteau, and Andrei Tarkovskij. "Excellent production qualities showcase a variety of modern, trans-continental pop, thanks to old-fashioned songwriting, and decorated with sampled bits and field recordings. What results sounds like the United Nations of Antena: a little dubby indie tropicalia here, a little Arabian ambient pop there, a little mod-pop Free Design/indielounge à la Sea and Cake there; but Testbild! maintain a skilled balance of sweet and mature throughout." - Other Music, NYC "Graceful, daring, inventive, full of charm and elegance." - Louis Philippe

Phantom Guitars: A Cool Collection of Twangin' Guitar (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, UK Instrumentals from the UK 1961-1964. For a short period in the UK, guitar-led instrumental groups took control. In the three year span between rock & roll and the full flush of beat, there was no bigger band than The Shadows. Their magical brand of twanging melody incorporated elements of Duane Eddy and The Ventures, but was something entirely British. And, as always, when someone comes up with a winning formula, everybody else suddenly leaps on board. So, in contrast to the clean-cut crooners, coffee bars, dancehalls and fairgrounds reverberated to the sound of Binson echo units and primitive Bigsby-esque tremelo arms. This CD ventures back in time a little further than previous Psychic Circle releases to round up a string-bending selection of some the finest examples of this genre.
